Spring Outfits with Black Leggings + TONS of Long Tops for Leggings

Earlier this week I posted building blocks for spring athleisure style, and today we’re continuing in that vein talking about spring outfits with leggings!  Plus, I’ve got a TON of long tops you can wear with leggings this spring!

Spring Outfits With Leggings

My Favorite Leggings
I’ve talked about these before, but until about a year and a half ago, I was more opposed to leggings than not, unless I was wearing them under dresses or around the house.  All the pairs I’d tried were cheap and also pretty thin.  Then, I saw several people raving about a particular pair of Zella leggings.  They were over twice as much as I’d ever paid for leggings, but I decided to try them because free shipping and free returns were available.  So, why the heck not?

The Zella leggings have been worth every penny!  They’re a high waisted pair with a wide waistband, both of which I thought I’d hate, but it turns out those features make them even more awesome.  The high waist keeps them up, and they never slip down.  I’ve both walked around in them all day as well as run 2-3 miles in them, and I never have to pull them up.  (And I’m comparing that to another pair of Zella leggings that aren’t high waist that I do have to pull up sometimes!)  The wide waistband lays flat against my stomach, which is not only flattering but is more comfortable than having a thinner waistband digging into your midsection.  They are thick and opaque, unlike the cheaper, thinner leggings I’d always owned in the past.  Plus, they’re made for working out so they have some compression, which makes me feel way more secure in them in addition to them already being thick and opaque.

You can find the Zella leggings HERE.  I wear size M.

Okay, now after all that talk about my favorite leggings, ummmmm….I’m not wearing them in any of the pics below because I’m too pregnant to wear them. ?  But I thought you needed to know about them!  The maternity pair I’m wearing in today’s pics are also thick and opaque, but they constantly slide down, so I won’t talk further about them.  I MISS MY ZELLA LEGGINGS!  I also miss my non-maternity jeans, but that’s enough complaining from me.  Let’s get onto the outfits!

Striped Tee + Springy Completer Piece (Denim Jacket, Utility Jacket, or Light Oversized Cardigan)
A striped tee with leggings is always a winner.  You could pair it with a denim jacket or utility jacket for more length, but I threw on a springy colored cardigan instead.

Cute Sweatshirt w/ Interesting Details
A cute sweatshirt with leggings makes for an effortless and super comfortable outfit.  The sweatshirt can be really simple, but it helps if it has at least one interesting detail that makes it stand apart from a regular old sweatshirt.  In this case, the cross-hem gives it that little oomph.

This is the Kohl’s sweatshirt tunic that I’ve been talking a lot about on Facebook and Instagram.  This is *not* a maternity sweatshirt, but these pics were taken at 29 weeks pregnant.  I love this sweatshirt and own it in lavender as well, which is sooo pretty for spring!  It comes in 6 colors and can be found on major sale at various times.  Like, over this past weekend it was $15.99!  If you want to catch it on sale, follow me on Facebook or Instastories.  I wear this in size S and would wear that size while not pregnant as well.  See the colors HERE.

All Black + White Sneakers
I’m hesitant to wear all black like this in the spring when it *feels* like you should be wearing brighter colors.  But I think white sneakers and white earrings really help “lift” the dark outfit.

Colorful Tee + Denim Jacket
I mentioned this in the Athleisure Building Blocks post, but you can tie a denim jacket around your waist not simply because it’s warm and you don’t want to hold it anymore, but also as an accessory or style.  It can give outfits some more visual interest, help provide definition, or provide more coverage around your rear if your top isn’t doing the job or your leggings aren’t that thick.

LONG TOPS FOR LEGGINGS IN THE SPRING

Even though my favorite Zella leggings are thick and opaque, and even though they have compression which makes them pretty flattering, overall I still like to have my rear at least mostly covered while in them for everyday casual activities.

Below I’ve rounded up a ton of tops that are 28″ or longer.  That should be long enough for *most* women and probably too long for petites.  Measure your own torso to see what your preferred length is.  Most of these sites have the length listed in the product description.  Also, almost all of these are between $15-$26 and from Kohl’s, Old Navy, ModCloth, or Nordstrom.  They also come in many, manyyyyy colors that aren’t shown in the collage below.
