Just because spring is approaching, it doesn’t mean you have to totally pack up your winter items. I want to help you get more use out of your clothing, so today I’m sharing three ideas for how to transition winter clothes to spring outfits!
Now, obviously you can wear whatever you want in any season. There are no “rules” that you have to follow. But, if you’re someone who likes to match the vibes of the season you’re in (e.g. match the lighter and fresher vibes of spring), here are some ideas to take pieces you’ve worn throughout the winter and create more spring-like outfits.
Today I’ll show three pieces that I’ve worn a ton in the winter and also share some general tips to transition winter clothes to spring outfits.
SIZING: I’m 5’6” and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.
1. Striped Tee (or any long sleeve t-shirt)
A striped tee like this one has been one of my go-to shirt options throughout the winter. This one has a dark base, so it’s easy to style with the darker and moodier winter vibes. But, you can also make darker tees feel more springlike, so let’s do it!
On the left is a winter look with a cozy cardigan and boots. Bundled up and warm! To style it in a spring outfit, pair the tee with lighter-weight ankle-length pants and a denim jacket.
One thing that helps transition winter clothes to spring is to pair them with pieces in lighter-weight fabrics and in lighter colors. Another thing that helps transition to spring is exposing your ankles (when it’s warm enough to do so!) and by wearing footwear that doesn’t appear as heavy.
These chinos were some of my most worn pants last spring and summer. They are lightweight, and I was surprised by how SOFT, stretchy, and flexible they are. Much more comfy than I anticipated! They sold out at the end of last summer, but they are BACK now and available in 3 colors and in straight, plus, petite, and tall sizing! 🙌🏼 Check them out HERE. I wear size 4.
I topped off the outfit with a denim jacket, which is my favorite layer in the spring. This jacket is sturdy and thick, but it is also STRETCHY! It’s such a great jacket, and it’s super affordable. Oversized denim jackets are trending right now, so I like that this one is a little roomier but still fitted and not completely oversized. Find it HERE. I wear size S.

2. Flare Jeans
I have loved the resurgence of flares! Jeans are a blank slate and can really be worn anytime, in any season. Here are a couple of ideas and tips for how to make flare jeans like these look more springlike.
In the winter, pair flare jeans with cozy sweaters to stay warm, of course!
But, when spring rolls around, you have tons of options with flare jeans as virtually any shirt works with them. For a super-easy way to transition winter clothes to spring, pair those jeans with a top in a fresh floral print! Fresh florals will “bring the spring” to your outfit immediately. You can finish it off with boots or with wedges, depending on what the weather calls for.
The top I’m wearing here is ADORABLE with its cute print, puff sleeves, and v-neck. It comes in 6 prints and colors, HERE. I’m wearing size S.
I rounded up a few more floral print tops for spring in the widget below. Plenty to choose from!

3. Cozy Sweater
There isn’t a huge difference between winter and spring for a cozy sweater, but I wanted to highlight it anyway. In many places, spring vacillates between warmer and cooler weather, so oftentimes you still need sweaters to stay warm on those chillier spring days.
Again, while you can wear any outfit you want any time you want, if you are itching for a change as the seasons change, here’s one thing you can do to transition those cozy winter sweaters to spring outfits: simply pair them with medium wash or light wash jeans!
The sweater I’m wearing here is thick and super cozy — total winter vibes. The winter look on the left shows the sweater with dark wash full-length jeans and boots, which matches the often gloomy winter days. For a lighter and fresher spring look, pair the sweater with medium or light wash jeans, like on the right.
This sweater is really thick and warm, so if you live in an area that is still pretty chilly during the spring, this is a good option to check out. It also comes in much lighter and brighter colors that will instantly “springify” your outfits! See them all HERE. I wear size S.
These NYDJ light wash jeans are really comfy, by the way! I love the wash on them, too — so good for spring! They do stretch out a bit after a couple of wears, so either try a size down or just plan to not get as many wears between washes.
