Let’s talk through 9 wardrobe essentials that will transform your wardrobe so it functions more smoothly, will help you feel updated, and are super comfy! 😊
SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.
1. Sweater
What is fall without sweaters? This one is SOFT, thick, and cozy, but not heavy. I especially love that it’s just short enough that you don’t need to tuck, and you can easily pair it with girlfriend jeans, straight leg jeans, bootcut jeans, flare jeans, and wide leg jeans for an easygoing, relaxed, and super unfussy outfit. (My favorite kind of outfit!!) Find it HERE. I’m wearing size XS.
If you prefer a different style, this sweater by BP is also great and really versatile! It’s not the soft, fuzzy kind of sweater, which means it will be less prone to pilling and needing a sweater shaver. But, it’s still plenty comfortable and easy to wear! Stay TTS (true to size) if you want a more oversized, slouchy fit. Otherwise, size down even more – I’d go XS for that.
2. Solid Colored Blouse
Don’t underestimate the power of a basic blouse! This one is SOOO comfy! It’s incredibly lightweight with a silky fabric that feels so, so good against your skin. It pairs perfectly with basic trousers (the Liverpool Los Angeles Kelsey Trousers are my fave) and with printed trousers, like the ones I’m wearing here. 3. Cardigan
A relaxed cardigan is a great go-to layer that you’ll get so much wear out of not only in the fall, but also beyond. This one is SOFT and cozy! It doesn’t have pockets, which is nice if you don’t like adding bulk to your hips. It’s great for both casual and work. I’m wearing it here in a casual outfit, and in the previous outfit I’m showing it styled for work. Very versatile! Find it in 4 colors, HERE. I’m wearing size XS. Size down, it’s plenty big!
4. Boots
To stay warmer in the fall, you need some boots, of course! This pair is a MUST-TRY in BOTH COLORS during this sale. They solve all of your boots + jeans problems! Here’s why:
- The shaft is super tall and narrow, so they work with ankle length pants and full length pants, including these slim straight jeans (pictured in the first photo above), flares, and wide legs!
- The heel is LOW and easy to walk in.
- You can dress them down and up! Wear them in casual outfits, as shown in the first photo, and dress them up for work, as shown in the second outfit.

5. Joggers or Leggings
If you want to wear athleisure, joggers or leggings are a must! My favorite joggers are the Zella Live-In Joggers that are currently ON SALE and totally worth it! They are smooth, stretchy, and soft and have a sporty fabric that keeps you from looking like you’re wearing pajamas. Find the joggers HERE. I wear size S.

This jacket is also part of the sale. It’s lightweight and goes well with leggings and joggers. Plus, I love its relaxed style. It comes in 2 colors HERE.
6. Lifestyle Sneakers
Everyone needs a pair of lifestyle sneakers! They will instantly update all of your casual outfits. To get the most versatility, look for a pair that is preferably white-based and has a streamlined, low profile. This pair is COMFY (I own it in other colorways) and works well with jeans and athleisure. Very VERSATILE! They come in several colors and definitely worth getting on sale, HERE. I’m wearing size 8.5.
7. Blazer
A blazer is good for both work AND casual outfits! Especially one like this, which is SOFT, STRETCHY, feels like a sweatshirt, and is super lightweight! Wear it to work over a blouse, like I’m doing here. You can also wear it for a really cool, casual outfit with girlfriend jeans, a white tee, and updated sneakers (like the shoes I love that are part of the #NSale right now). 8. Jeans
Of course, a great pair of jeans is a must. But COMFORTABLE jeans is an even bigger must! My favorite brand for comfortable jeans is Wit & Wisdom at Nordstrom, which is what most of the pairs I’m wearing here are. The ones that have longevity and will still look updated years from now are: the slim straight leg jean, the bootcut jean, and the girlfriend jean. Unfortunately, sizes are limited for those pairs at the moment, but I’m hoping for a restock! I will also include more comfortable jeans in a widget below.
Another pair that I absolutely LOVE that is really SOFT, super stretchy, lightweight, and sooo comfortable, is this pair of wide leg jeans by KUT From the Kloth, which is the pair of wide leg jeans I’m wearing throughout this post. This pair is not part of the #NSale, but it is in stock and available in straight and petite sizes, HERE. It’s sooooo worth it! So, so comfortable! I wear size 4 in these.

9. Printed Blouse
A printed blouse will make your wardrobe more interesting, and both of these blouses have adorable prints and are super versatile! Wear them with jeans or pair them with trousers for work. Also, I am very tempted to name red shoes as a staple this season because they’re back, and they are THAT versatile. 😍 They totally liven up outfits! Red flats in a Mary Jane style like these gives red shoes that updated look, and these are fairly comfy with a soft upper and some cushion in the footbed. Find them HERE. I’m wearing size 9.
