Trying to figure out what to wear for family pictures? Sometimes the hardest part of coordinating everyone’s outfits is figuring out what YOU should wear!
I’m sharing 10 family photo outfit ideas for moms, including jeans, pretty blouses, and dresses that work especially well for fall family pictures. They’re easy to wear, look pulled together, and don’t require a bunch of bulky layers!
In my guide on What to Wear for Family Photos: How to Coordinate Outfits, I recommend starting with the person who’s hardest to dress, then building everyone else’s outfits around them. If that’s YOU, these outfits are a great place to start!
Family Photo Outfit Ideas for Moms
You’ll notice a few easy formulas repeated here because you don’t need to reinvent the wheel. You can rely on several formulas each year, but switch out the pieces to change up your looks.
One formula I especially love is dark wash jeans with a pretty blouse for family pictures. The darker denim dresses things up a little and looks great with fall colors like burgundy, green, and rust.
Floral prints are also great to rely on as they make it easy to pull colors into everyone else’s outfits! (See my guide on What to Wear for Family Photos: How to Coordinate Outfits for more on that.)
I’ve included a few dresses and a more casual jeans option, so there’s something for different preferences.
On to the outfits!
1. Floral Blouse + Dark Wash Wide Leg Jeans

So easy but so pretty! I love the combination of burgundy and dark wash denim for fall family pictures. The floral print adds interest without needing extra layers, and the brown flats finish off the look while keeping it casual enough for outdoor pictures.
Shop the Outfit:
– Floral Top (wearing size S)
– Wide Leg Jeans (wearing size 28)
– Earrings (wearing 30mm)
– Brown Flats (wearing size 9)
2. Printed Dress + Tall Boots

If you prefer wearing dresses for family pictures, this is such an easy fall outfit formula!
The burgundy print and chocolate brown boots work beautifully together, and the dress has enough detail that you don’t need to add much else. Plus, the print gives you several colors to work with when choosing everyone else’s outfits.
Shop the Outfit:
– Dress (wearing size S)
– Boots (wearing size 9)
– Earrings (wearing size 30mm)
3. Solid Blouse + Dark Wash Wide Leg Jeans

You don’t need a print to make a jeans outfit look special! This rust-colored blouse has pretty details that make it feel a little dressier and provide visual interest, while the dark wash jeans keep the outfit from feeling too formal. I especially love how the warm rust color looks against the deep blue denim!
If you want another solid top option, THIS ONE is really pretty and not as dressy. And it’s 50% off!!
Shop the Outfit:
– Blouse (wearing size S)
– Jeans (wearing size 28)
– Brown Flats (wearing size 9)
– Earrings (wearing 30mm)
4. Wrap Dress + Boots

A solid-colored dress is another great starting point for family photo outfits! This dark green is a beautiful fall color, plus it has texture to give you visual interest without having to wear a print. The wrap style adds shape to help you feel confident!
Shop the Outfit:
– Dress (wearing size M)
– Earrings (wearing 30mm)
5. Short-Sleeve Sweater + Medium Wash Boyfriend Jeans

If you want something more casual, this is a great alternative to the blouse and dark wash jeans outfits!
These boyfriend jeans have a slimmer shape than my wide leg jeans, so they’re a nice option if you prefer a more defined silhouette. I also love that the medium wash is still a rich blue rather than a really light, faded wash.
The fitted short-sleeve sweater keeps everything simple and polished!
Shop the Outfit:
– Sweater (wearing size S)
– Jeans (wearing size 28)
– Flats (similar — I wear size 9)
– Earrings (wearing 30mm)
– Necklace (use code TAKE20 for 20% off)
6. Floral Maxi Dress + Boots

For a dressier option, a floral maxi dress makes putting together an outfit SO easy! I love the mix of burgundy, pink, and brown in this one. These colors give you plenty of options for coordinating the rest of the family, and the flowy skirt adds movement and visual interest without needing any extra accessories.
Shop the Outfit:
– Dress (wearing size 6)
– Jacket (wearing size S)
– Boots (wearing size 9)
– Earrings (wearing 30mm)
7. Floral Blouse + Dark Wash Jeans

Here’s another variation of my favorite easy formula for fall family pictures: a pretty floral blouse with dark wash jeans!
You can see how simply changing the blouse gives you a completely different look, even when you’re wearing the same jeans. The dark green is especially pretty for fall and should be great in photos, and the floral print gives you a starting point for choosing colors for the rest of the family.
You could wear this blouse with wide leg jeans, flare jeans, or the boyfriend jeans, depending on which silhouette you feel best in!
Shop the Outfit:
– Blouse (wearing size S)
– Jeans (wearing size 28)
– Brown Flats (wearing size 9)
– Earrings (wearing 30mm)
– Necklace (use code TAKE20 for 20% off)
8. Midi Dress + Neutral Flats

One of my FAVORITE dresses — great for family photos! This dress has plenty of interest on its own with the puff sleeves, tiered skirt, and texture, so I just added fun earrings and neutral flats to finish the look.
Navy is SUCH an easy color to coordinate with the rest of the family’s outfits, but this dress comes in TONS of colors. You have lots of options!
Shop the Outfit:
– Dress (wearing size S)
– Flats (similar — I wear size 9)
9. Corduroy Shirtdress

I love a corduroy shirtdress for fall family pictures because the fabric adds texture and visual interest even though the dress is a solid color! It’s another easy one-piece outfit that doesn’t require a bunch of layers or accessories.
This one provides shape with its belted waist and movement with the extra tier at the bottom. It’ll look fantastic in family pics!
Another shirtdress option is THIS poplin one. Also 50% off!
Shop the Outfit:
– Dress (wearing size S)
– Flats (similar — I wear size 9)
– Earrings (wearing 30mm)
10. Ruffle Dress + Neutral Sandals

If you’re taking slightly fancier family pics, go for a dress like this! This one is super versatile — wear it to dinner, a show, or even a wedding…and dressy family photos! The flutter sleeves give it pretty details and movement while the v-neck and wrap silhouette gives you shape so that you can feel confident in the pics.
Also, this dress comes in TONS of colors and prints. You can go for a traditionally fall color, or go for bright colors if that’s your photoshoot’s theme!
Shop the Outfit:
– Dress (wearing size S)
– Shoes (similar)
– Earrings (wearing 30mm)

What Should Men Wear for Family Pictures?
Once you’ve chosen your outfit, it’s time to figure out what everyone else should wear.
Remember, see my guide for How to Coordinate Outfits in Family Photos for my 5 tips to make coordinating easy!
But for a little help for the guys: I like keeping things pretty simple. You don’t need anything complicated to put together a nice outfit for family pictures.
A few options that can work well are:
- Jeans or chinos: Both are great, depending on how casual or dressy you want the pictures to feel.
- Henley shirts: A nice alternative to a basic t-shirt that still feels casual.
- Polo sweater: The collar dresses it up, while still keeping it casual. I like the texture of polo sweaters over polo shirts. I also like this one with a cool texture.
- Short-sleeve button-up shirts: Great for warmer weather.
- Long-sleeve button-up shirts: An easy way to dress things up a little without going too formal.
- Collared quarter-zip sweaters: A simple option for cooler weather that can look pulled together — a collar goes a long way and looks more interesting than a plain v-neck or crewneck sweater. The one I linked is pricey but good quality. Another option is this one.
More options below!
You can mix and match these pieces depending on what you’re wearing and the overall feel you’re going for.
