Huge thanks to Kohl’s for sponsoring this post
Summer weekends can be full of everything from kids’ sports games and poolside playdates to casual errands and backyard BBQs, but looking pulled together for totally casual plans (without feeling overdressed or defaulting to leggings) is weirdly harder than it should be. If you’d like some help feeling pulled together on the weekends, I’m sharing 7 go-to pieces that simplify your summer weekend style so that getting dressed feels easy, and I’m partnering with Kohl’s to do it!
Kohl’s has TONS of great options that are affordable, stylish, and comfortable. Seriously! They carry a wide range of sizes, including straight, petite, plus, and tall, so it’s easy to find clothes that work for you. Plus, with shopping options like in-store and curbside pickup, Kohl’s makes it convenient to shop.
These items are comfortable, easy to mix and match, and help you feel pulled together without a lot of effort. Let’s walk through them!
SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.

1. Denim Shorts
Let’s start with the ultimate summer staple: denim shorts. These shorts are soft, stretchy, and super comfortable, and they’re really affordable! These are my go-to denim shorts. They come in several washes, HERE.
2. White Tee
A white tee is a wardrobe basic, and this tee has been my go-to for a couple of years. It’s super duper affordable at just $5.99. I also like how its heather texture gives it visual interest and keeps it from looking like an undershirt. Find it HERE. I sized up to this and am wearing M.
This classic combo is perfectly laid back for backyard BBQs, kids’ sports games, park play dates, and hanging poolside. Pull it together with a loose front tuck, simple accessories, and tan leather sandals.
By the way, if you need a lightweight, crop utility jacket, definitely check out this one! It’s PERFECT for summer and pairs well with shorts and with flowy wide leg pants. Comes in two colorways HERE. I’m wearing size S.

3. Relaxed, Breathable Wide Leg Pants
It is a GAME-CHANGER to have pants that are SUPER breathable, and these pants are some of my FAVES! It will not only simplify your summer weekend style to have breathable pants like these, but it will simplify your summer style EVERY DAY!
I got these pants last summer in another colorway and wore them constantly. They are REALLY breathable, satiny-smooth and not itchy at all*, and really comfortable with a flowy fit and fully elastic waistband. You can wear these for nearly anything, dressing them down and up, which makes summer style SO easy! Find them in 4 solid colors and 4 prints, HERE. I wear size S.
*The Vera Flax colorway is different than the others. It is not the satiny fabric and doesn’t have the same sheen. That colorway feels more like linen.

4. Fitted Tank Top
A fitted tank top is a warm-weather workhorse, especially with wide leg or flowy bottoms. I wore this type of tank in multiple colors all throughout last summer. The fitted cut balances out volume and helps define your waist, while the ribbed texture adds subtle detail, allowing you to keep outfits simple and less fussy while still looking great. I sized up to M since these are pretty fitted.
An outfit like this is perfect for weekend road trips, kids’ sports events, coffee runs, or a trip to the farmer’s market. It allows you to move around easily, thanks to the stretchy, casual tank and flowy pants with an elastic waistband, but it looks intentional and pulled together.

5. Nice Casual Top
A popover-style top is the perfect in-between piece — more elevated than a tee but still totally casual. The buttons and texture add polish, and it’s breathable enough for hot days. A great staple when you want to look like you tried without doing much. You can see one similar to the one I’m wearing HERE.
6. Black Shorts (or any other neutral bottoms)
Last, another pair of neutral bottoms gives you tons more outfit flexibility. Neutrals make mixing and matching easy so you can simplify your summer weekend style by having more options with fewer pieces.
These black shorts are 5″ long and are stretchy but sturdy. They come in 4 colorways, HERE. I’m wearing size 6.
You can wear this easygoing-but-polished outfit for coffee or brunch with friends and casual family lunches. If you’ve got a casual outing but still want to look like you tried a little (😉), this outfit totally delivers!

7. Blouse
Have something slightly dressier on the calendar? Add a breathable, lightweight blouse. The pretty print that makes it feel special but still easy to wear.
I paired it with the flowy, breathable wide leg pants that I showed earlier with the striped tank. See how easily you can dress them up?
