Someone PLEASE tell me you’re going on a fun trip this spring! Or perhaps this summer? While I have been traveling a ton this year already, unfortunately none of it was for vacation. It’s killing me because I found some fun pieces that I’m itching to bust out for a beach or poolside getaway but haven’t been able to use yet. I mean, look at that outfit up there. It’s ready and waiting for the pool!
I don’t actually have a break until summer, so I’ll be dreaming about a vacation until then. Or, perhaps you’ll let me live vicariously through you? I’ll show you some great pieces for your trip, and you’ll send me all your vacation photos so that I feel like I’m there. Mostly the food, because that’s what I really care about on vacation. Haha! Deal? Not creepy at all, right? 🙂

I found some of these while I was doing the last Nordstrom collaboration about hats. This is another collab with Nordstrom, however I was not prompted to talk about swim or beachwear. I’m just excited about these pieces! Nordstrom used to be so overwhelming for me to shop at, but because of other people narrowing down the choices for me and pointing out pieces they’ve found and loved, I’ve been able to find so many things that I love too. And a wide range of things! Like, maxi dresses to tops to bags to my soft knit grey white striped blazer, and recently hats, and now beachwear. I understand how Nordstrom can be overwhelming, so I enjoy sharing the pieces I find in hopes to narrow it all down for you too.
Anyway, here they are:
1. Cover-up – I’ve normally worn a jersey dress or a tank top as a coverup for my swimsuit, but when I saw this piece I knew it was the right kind of cover-up for me. I like dresses or tank tops for when I feel weird being in a swimsuit, like traveling to and from the beach/pool and running errands in between. But what I don’t like is that while I’m actually on the beach I often want just a little coverage but don’t want to be completely covered up. That’s what this one does! Bonus points for being fun and chic. And it pairs perfectly with my new black swimsuit!
I love the little tassels at the bottom. It also comes in cobalt blue, which I think is gorgeous, as well as light pink and sort of a burnt orange that they’re calling “coral.” One thing to be aware of is that it is fairly thin which I assume would be what you want during a hot day day by the water, but I feel like I’d need to be cautious about it snagging. Other than that, it’s a beautiful cover up.
2. Board Shorts – I often have a hard time with board shorts. Or any shorts for that matter. Usually I wish board shorts were like an inch longer and an inch wider, so I was surprised when these actually fit me. They also have pockets, and the gold trim around the tie at the waist is a cute detail. I have yet to actually use them, but they are perfect for the rest of my poolside look.
I’m normally size 6/8 on bottom, which puts me at Small on the sizing chart. The Small fit, but I preferred Medium as it gave more length and were roomier around my thighs which balanced me out better.
3. Hat – I already talked about this hat last week (HERE), but besides being a great accessory for everyday outfits, it totally works for the beach or pool. I’d prefer a floppy hat for poolside rather than the beach since beaches are windy and floppy hats might catch the wind and fly off your head. Nonetheless, a hat is crucial to protect your head from the sun.
Straw hats, fedoras, and baseball caps also do the trick! Last week I mentioned that Nordstrom has a huge selection, which was key for me finding hats that fit my head. They carry hats with all different circumferences, and I love being able to read that info right off the website. If you’ve also had trouble finding hats that look good on you, I strongly urge you to check out Nordstrom.
As I just searched through them again, I saw two notable ones that I missed! This panama hat (HERE) can be adjusted inside the brim to fit your head. It ensures you a prefect fit, which is awesome! Secondly, a cute grey baseball cap with tiny polka dots! (Found HERE.) Also comes in light chambray with polka dots.
Besides a look for the water, I also used the kimono and hat in an outfit for a nice stroll or lunch on vacation:
