Shopping Help: Plain & Playful Summer Tops #2

Last week I said there was an overwhelming number of types of tops out there, and that was only confirmed when I tried to put this post together. SO MANY TOPS.

Last week’s tops (catch the post here) lent themselves more towards casual wear. This week’s tops are a little more mixed. They all work for casual wear, but many of them can also be styled for a work look with khakis, trouser jeans, skirts and blazers. Many can also be dressed up with heels, wedges, skinny jeans, white jeans (my summer fave!) and some jewelry for a summery night out. After all, utilizing your closet is a lot about how you accessorize the piece, right?

Most are under $30, except one under $35 and a couple under $45. From Target, Old Navy, and ModCloth.

This summer is screaming for lace, crochet, and eyelet pieces! Each of these is really unique and easy to wear, and a nice diversion from a regular white lace tee or tank.

Notes: Yellow tank has lace and crochet up the sides and around the back shoulders in a unique design.

Better Than a T-Shirt: White Eyelet (plain) | Embellished Boho – sale for $12! (playful) | Blue Floral Dot Chiffon (pop)

These are great replacements for a t-shirt that help you look more polished and put together with the same amount of effort. Honestly, I like these kinds of tops more than t-shirts because they’re looser fitting, which is great for summer heat. I find it much more comfortable when clothes are not squeezing my body!

Notes: Embellished top comes in white/gold and is on major sale. Blue chiffon top is actually a floral dot, not just normal polka dots. Pretty cute! Also comes in black w/ floral dot and blue/white stripes. And the white eyelet is straight up adorable! Got some great seams and more detailing that you can see closer up.

Breezy Sleeveless: Sleeveless Button Up (plain) | Coral Cutout (playful) | Floral (pop)

And of course you need some good sleeveless options. These all work in a casual setting, but it helps to have some sleeveless button-ups for work. Ones that are flowy like these as opposed to structured are great for that airflow.

Notes: First one comes in 7 colors–a few neutrals and various shades of pink that are fantastic for summer.
