The Best Comfortable Jeans (That You Won’t Wanna Take Off)

best comfortable jeans + putting me together + The Best Comfortable Jeans (That You Won't Wanna Take Off)

You know I’m ALL about comfortable clothes, which includes JEANS! If you find jeans uncomfortable or haven’t found a pair that makes you go, “Ahhhhh” and basically changed your life or made you question whether you were wearing jeans or yoga pants, well friend, you need this post. 😄 I’m sharing the best comfortable jeans around because as your style friend, I NEED you to have jeans you LOVE!

If you’re still out there hating jeans, squeezing into stiff denim that digs into your stomach, feeling like you can’t crouch down, bend, or move around, or feel like you can’t eat ANYTHING lest you burst in your jeans, you’re in the right place.

I want you to have jeans that actually feel good all day — ones that move with you, don’t dig in, and make you feel confident, not self-conscious. I want you to have jeans that let you run errands, sit through meetings, eat to your heart’s content without being tempted to unbutton your pants (oh wait… is that just me? 😂), and chase your kids around without needing to change the minute you get home. I ain’t playin’ over here!

Today I’m sharing my recommendations for the best comfortable jeans. It includes my favorite tried and true brands, comfortable jeans that are currently available from those brands, and ones the PMT community loves — so you know it’s not just what works for me but works for lots of others! Some of these jeans have been life-changing for me and for countless others.

With that, let’s get to the best comfortable jeans so that you love your wardrobe even more! 🤩

What to Look for in Truly Comfortable Jeans

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been annoyed by jeans that were supposed to be comfortable but still left me changing into sweats by 2:00 pm. That’s not gonna cut it — I ain’t playin’ over here! I want jeans that I can live in all day, including working from home at my desk, picking up my kids, and being on-the-go taking care of my kids. So, here’s what I look for in my list of best comfortable jeans.

1. Soft, Stretchy Fabric That Doesn’t Feel Stiff But Doesn’t Sag

For me, comfort includes soft fabric AND stretchiness. If they’re not stretchy, I don’t care how soft that fabric is. I need them to stretch and move with me, but they can’t get saggy either! If they’re the most comfortable stretch jeans but get super saggy, and you constantly have to pull them up, that’s not comfortable either.

Quick Tip: I generally recommend looking for denim with 2% elastane to make sure they retain shape.

Quick Tip #2: I also recommend doing these three tests with your jeans to ensure you’ll love them.

2. A Comfortable, Stretchy Waistband!

Um, hello — why would I want my jeans to be stretchy everywhere else but NOT have a stretchy waistband? A stretchy waistband is a MUST! Honestly, it’s LIFE-CHANGING to have jeans with a stretchy waistband!

3. The Right Fit for Your Body

Even if the fabric is soft and the waistband is stretchy, the jeans won’t feel comfortable if the rise or cut doesn’t work for your body. This part is super important, but it’s also totally personal.

For example, if a pair of jeans has super stretchy fabric and a stretchy waistband, but they don’t fit around YOUR hips well, they will end up giving you a wedgie. That’s not comfortable!

Or, if the rise is too high for you, it could cut into your stomach at an awkward place and bother you, even if the waistband is stretchy.

So, I just want to mention that fit is a factor here, but this is highly dependent on the individual. While we can’t get into the details of fit here (because it could be a whole series of posts on its own — I cover denim fit in great detail over several modules in the PMT Style Club), I’ll link to a couple of resources that will help you get started with a few tips:

The Best Comfortable Jeans That Are Stylish and Practical

All right, now it’s time to get to the good stuff — some of the best comfortable jeans that are currently available! These are ones that I’ve not only tried, but I also own and wear regularly, with the exception of one. Additionally, these are some favorite comfy jeans among the PMT community. So, you KNOW you’re in good hands!

But of course remember, even though these have soft, stretchy fabric and stretchy waistbands, if they don’t fit YOUR shape well, they won’t be comfortable. This is a good list to start with, though, and hopefully something here will fit you just right!

SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes.

1. Wit & Wisdom Comfortable Sky High Wide Leg Jeans

My favorite denim brand — hands down — is Wit & Wisdom. If you’ve been around PMT for a while, you already know I’ve been talking about them for over a decade! I’m so glad soooo many of you have fallen in love with them too! These are seriously some of the most comfortable jeans out there — they’re my absolute faves.

What makes them so good? Not only is the denim generally VERY soft and VERY stretchy, but the waistband includes a stretchy elastic panel sewn inside. It’s LIFE-CHANGING! I wore these when I was postpartum and during weight fluctuations of about 15 pounds, and I honestly can’t live without elastic waistband jeans anymore.

Wit & Wisdom has a bunch of different jean styles, and some are very comfortable while others are RIDICULOUSLY comfortable. 😄 This pair? SUPER soft, very stretchy, and incredibly flexible. The waistband is also extra stretchy, so you can eat, move, crouch down, and go about your day without feeling restricted.

Note: This pair is on the thinner side, which makes it great for warmer months. I also love the trouser silhouette, which gives a more polished, tailored vibe that looks a bit dressier, but you can TOTALLY wear them with a t-shirt and sneakers. (I do it ALL the time!)

The rise is extra high. DON’T believe what the site says, which lists a 10.5″ rise. It’s actually around a 12″ rise, which helps them hit closer to the narrowest part of your waist — super important for flattering wide leg jeans. (The rise really does matter. If you want to see what I mean, check out my post How to Look Good in Wide Leg Jeans: Four Fit Tips.

Find the jeans HERE. I wear size 6. If you’re in between sizes, order your usual size and one size down. These can run roomy, and wide leg jeans can look frumpy if the sizing isn’t spot on. (You can order these from Nordstrom, which offers free shipping and free returns with no hard return window — so it’s totally risk-free to try.)

2. Democracy Wide Leg Jeans

Another option that is super similar to Wit & Wisdom but comes in more washes is this pair from Democracy.

Democracy is like Wit & Wisdom’s sister brand with the same type of stretchiness in the waistband. The brands are comparable. I do find that in general, Wit & Wisdom tends to have a higher ceiling, especially with their upper tier of jeans being even softer and even more luxurious feeling than Democracy’s. But really, both are fantastic.

One note is that this particular pair in this medium wash has a fairly thick seam at the hem, and I feel it hit my foot. It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s just somewhat of a strange thing that I’ve never experienced before. It doesn’t happen with other pairs of Democracy jeans that I’ve tried, though.

3. KUT From the Kloth Buttery Soft and Stretchy Wide Leg Jeans

best comfortable jeans + putting me together + The Best Comfortable Jeans That You Won't Wanna Take Off + gauzy white blouse + comfortable soft wide leg jeans + suede mary jane shoes

These jeans are BUTTERY soft — especially in most washes. (Some colorways are a little less soft, but overall, they’re totally worth a try.) They’re thicker than the Wit & Wisdom pair above but still very stretchy, super comfy, and seriously soft. Plus, they hold their shape through multiple wears so you’ll still look polished by the end of the day.

The waistband isn’t marketed as stretchy, but it actually is! You can bend, sit, and move around comfortably — no stiff or constricting waistband here.

These have been a big hit with PMTers too!
➡️ Shop more colorways HERE.

I wear size 4 in these — they run large. Since you can grab them from Nordstrom (hello, free shipping and returns!), order your regular size and one size down to find the best fit.

4. Affordable Lauren Conrad Soft Wide Leg Jeans

best comfortable jeans + putting me together + The Best Comfortable Jeans That You Won't Wanna Take Off + affordable soft wide leg jeans + burgundy blouse + olive green utility jacket + tan suede boots

I recently found these jeans, and while I don’t have a ton of experience with them yet, they ARE very comfortable. Soft, stretchy, and the waistband stretches. They’re on the thicker side, so they’ll serve you well in the cooler months.

Most importantly, I’m including them here because they’re an amazingly affordable option for how comfy they are. They’re regularly around $40, but since Kohl’s runs great sales often, you can usually grab them for around $30!

Check them out HERE. I wear size 6.

5. Affordable Draper James Stretchy Crop Wide Leg Jeans

best comfortable jeans + putting me together + The Best Comfortable Jeans That You Won't Wanna Take Off + comfortable crop wide leg jeans + red short sleeve pointelle open weave sweater + tan flats

These jeans quickly became my favorite comfortable crop wide leg jeans! They’re stretchy but still look polished, and they have a hidden elastic waistband sewn in — just like my beloved Wit & Wisdom jeans.

Even better? They’re super affordable — often just $39.99 on sale!

6. Wit & Wisdom Wide Leg Jeans– Full Length

If you’re looking for a comfortable full-length wide leg jean in a dark wash, check out this pair from Wit & Wisdom. It’s got everything I love: stretchy, soft fabric, an elastic waistband, and all-day ease of movement.

➡️ Find them HERE. Wearing size 4 — these run large.

7. Wit & Wisdom Go-To Super Stretchy and Comfortable Bootcut Jeans

best comfortable jeans + putting me together + The Best Comfortable Jeans That You Won't Wanna Take Off + comfortable bootcut jeans + brown jacket + tan boots

When it comes to comfortable bootcut jeans, Wit & Wisdom is my go-to. This particular pair has thicker fabric that helps the jeans look polished and structured. And, it holds its shape really well so you don’t end up with a saggy bum! At the same time, it’s soft, stretchy, and features their signature elastic waistband. So comfy!!!

Find this pair HERE. I’m wearing size 6.

By the way, Wit & Wisdom has several bootcut jeans styles, and all of them range from comfortable to super duper comfortable. Like, the first pair I ever tried felt like yoga pants, while this pair is thicker but still comfy.

Moral of the story: If you want the most comfortable bootcut jeans, this brand gives you a high chance of finding a winner — you might just need to try a couple pairs to strike gold.

8. Lauren Conrad Affordable and Comfortable Flare Jeans

comfortable lauren conrad dark wash flare jeans + black blouse + leopard print top dressy date outfit

This pair of jeans is pretty comparable to the Wit & Wisdom bootcut jeans I just shared — thick, stretchy, and hold their shape well. While they’re not quite as soft as the W&W pair, they’re still really good — and they cost way less. So if you’re looking for a more affordable option that’s still comfortable, these are totally worth checking out.

Find them HERE. I wear size 6.

Honorable Mention: Madewell Wide Leg Jeans

best comfortable jeans + putting me together + The Best Comfortable Jeans That You Won't Wanna Take Off + comfortable crop wide leg jeans + burgundy blouse + burgundy bomber jacket + tan flats

I recently got these jeans but have only had a few opportunities to wear them. (We haven’t had much cool weather yet!) They get to be on this list because they’re super soft and very, very stretchy throughout the legs. The waistband does have stretch, though it’s not like the Wit & Wisdom waistbands, which is why these are an honorable mention.

Madewell jeans run the gamut of stiffer fabric to something like this pair, which is really stretchy. I generally find Madewell to not have as much stretch as I like, but this pair is great!

I especially love the wash of this pair and the extra wide leg — it adds some playful movement. I also love how polished these jeans look, even though they are really stretchy. Find them HERE. Wearing size 28.

Honorable Mention: Quince Relaxed Straight Leg and Wide Leg Jeans

best comfortable jeans + putting me together + The Best Comfortable Jeans That You Won't Wanna Take Off + comfortable relaxed straight leg jeans + white sweater + tan boots

If you prefer denim with a bit more structure but still want it to feel decently comfortable, check out these jeans from Quince. They’re definitely stiffer than the other pairs I’ve shared but still have some stretch.

I know some of you actually feel more confident in denim that is a bit firmer, and if that’s you, this is a good pair to try that a ton of people love. These stay polished all day, and the best part? They’re only $50! But be warned, the waistband has a little stretch but is nothing like the other pairs in this post!

I’m wearing the Relaxed Straight Leg Jeans, which look like a slightly slimmer wide leg jean. If you want something with more volume, they also offer a true Wide Leg Jean. I also own the Straight Leg Jeans, but those feel a bit tighter at the waist than the other two.

FAQs About Comfortable Jeans

With those recommendations for my best comfortable jeans in mind, let’s now talk through some common questions I hear when it comes to finding comfortable jeans for yourself.

Q1: What are the most comfortable jeans for women?

The ones listed above! Look for jeans that combine a soft and stretchy fabric, a forgiving waistband, and a rise that works for your body. Fit and fabric together make all the difference.

My favorite brands whose jeans are generally comfortable are:

  • Wit & Wisdom — my longtime fave, AND lots and lots of PMTers fave
  • KUT From the Kloth — especially the Meg Wide Leg. Sometimes their other styles don’t have a stretchy waistband, but the Meg does.
  • Democracy — this is akin to Wit & Wisdom with the stretchy waistbands. You can often find styles for less at places like Nordstrom Rack and TJMaxx.
  • NYDJ — they have lots of styles, and some are comfy while others are REALLY comfy. Read reviews to figure out which ones are the latter!
  • Lauren Conrad at Kohl’s — tends to have consistently stretchy jeans (and pants for that matter!) at super affordable prices
  • Draper James — tends to have consistently stretchy jeans and pants at super affordable prices

Updated: PMTers Favorite Brands — Straight from their mouths

I also asked on Instagram Stories what PMTers most comfortable jeans were, and here are the ones that were the most popular. (If I already listed it above, I’ll repeat it below just so you know which brands are widely-loved by others, straight from their recs!)

Wit & Wisdom and Democracy were the most popular, with KUT From the Kloth next. The others shared here were named by at least 5 people.

  • Wit & Wisdom — my longtime fave, AND lots and lots of PMTers fave
  • Democracy — this is akin to Wit & Wisdom with the stretchy waistbands. You can often find styles for less at places like Nordstrom Rack and TJMaxx.
  • KUT From the Kloth — especially the Meg Wide Leg. Sometimes their other styles don’t have a stretchy waistband, but the Meg does.
  • NYDJ — they have lots of styles, and some are comfy while others are REALLY comfy. Read reviews to figure out which ones are the latter!
  • Judy Blue — my PMT teammates love this brand, and so do other PMTers!
  • Halara – I’ve been SOOOO intrigued by their ads because they show stretchy, super comfy jeans, and obviously I’m like a moth to a flame. But I worried they were a scam. 😆 Several PMTers mentioned them, and one even said she thought they were a scam but turned out not to be. I’VE GOTTA TRY NOW!!!
  • Torrid — great for mid-size and plus-size options!
  • American Eagle Next Level Stretch — they specifically noted “Next Level Stretch” so I linked to all of those

Q2: Are high-rise jeans more comfortable?

This TOTALLY depends on your body type! I recommend finding your Ideal Rise, meaning measure from your crotch to the point of your torso where you ideally want your jeans to hit so that you feel the most comfortable and confident. Get that measurement in INCHES — not in the terms “high rise” or “mid rise” because brands label their jeans differently. You’ll have the most certainty when you know in exact inches what your ideal rise is.

Q3: Are wide leg jeans comfortable?

Yes — if you find the right fit. Wide leg jeans give your legs room to breathe and move, and they’re some of my favorites for all-day comfort. If you’ve tried wide leg jeans and feel like you look frumpy, check out my post Check out How to Look Good in Wide Leg Jeans: Four Fit Tips to Find the Right Pair.

Q4: What’s the best denim blend for stretch without getting saggy?

Look for jeans with around 2% elastane or spandex. This gives you flexibility without losing shape.

Q5: What jeans are best for curvy women?

Jeans with elastic waistbands and some stretch in them are often really helpful for curvy women. By “curvy,” we generally mean those with narrow waists and fuller hips, where your waist is significantly smaller than your hips.

The jeans I listed here all tend to fit curvy women pretty well (with the exception of the honorable mention Quince pair, which is more hit or miss). That said, the jeans listed here are ALSO pretty good for women that don’t have curvy figures. The stretchiness of the fabric and waistbands help them accommodate a fairly broad range of body shapes.

Additionally, jeans labeled “curvy” are, you guessed it, better jeans for curvy women. Curvy jeans are cut wider in the hips and narrower at the waist, which naturally fits the figure of curvy women.

Q6: How do I stop jeans from digging into my stomach?

Choose jeans with 1) a stretchy waistband, 2) that are the right rise for your body, and 3) that are cut to naturally follow your shape.

Q7: How do I find jeans that don’t stretch out or sag?

Look for jeans with 2% elastane or spandex so that they retain their shape. 100% cotton will definitely stretch out, for example — and in that case, you should actually size down and plan for them to stretch out.

Check out my post three tests with your jeans to ensure you’ll love them for more on doing the “Stretch Test.”

Q8: What jeans are best for fluctuating weight or sizes?

My favorites are the Wit & Wisdom pairs and the KUT From the Kloth pair. They are the stretchiest and most accommodating. And, jeans with stretch waistbands are crucial when you’re fluctuating sizes. Like I mentioned, I wore many pairs of Wit & Wisdom jeans when I was postpartum (and in the early stages of pregnancy, for that matter), because the stretchy waistbands are magic.

I Want You to Have Jeans You’ll Actually Want to Wear

I REALLY want you to have stylish and comfortable jeans that you ABSOLUTELY love. That you could live in all day. That make you happy. AND that make you feel confident.

I hope this list of my best jeans for everyday wear gives you some fresh options and puts some GOLD in your wardrobe!

Let me know if you’ve tried any of these or if you have more recommendations for YOUR best comfortable jeans! If they’re soft, super stretchy, and have a stretchy waistband, hit me with ’em! 🤩
