What Colors Go With Burgundy Pants: Everything You Need To Know About Color Pairings, Outfits, and Shoes

What Colors Go With Burgundy Pants: Everything You Need To Know About Color Pairings, Outfits, and Shoes + putting me together + colors to wear with burgundy pants

Burgundy is one of fall’s hottest colors, and it’s everywhere this season — including burgundy pants being back in the spotlight! And we love that, don’t we? Burgundy makes outfits look so rich, and it actually pairs well with quite a few colors, making it delightfully versatile. But, if you’ve ever wondered what colors go with burgundy pants and have felt stumped as to how to make them work in more outfits, I’ve gotcha covered. Today I’m sharing what to wear with burgundy pants (or maroon pants!), which colors work with burgundy, and easy outfit ideas you can totally copy for casual, elevated casual, or even work-friendly looks.

By the way, burgundy is one of the 8 trends I shared for this season. If you’d like to see the full list, check out my blog post with 8 Fall Style Trends to Easily Update Outfits.

Ready? Let’s dive in!

The Burgundy Pants I’m Wearing in These Outfits

Option #1: Wide Leg Flowy Pants
For most of the outfits in this post, I’m wearing this pair of burgundy pants. I actually LOVE them. They’re super comfortable, versatile, and easy to dress up or down. They have some elastic in the waistband for extra give. They look polished and streamlined down the leg, but they’re so comfortable to wear!

Find them instraight, tall, and petites HERE. I’m wearing size 4 in these. To be honest, they are kinda tight to squeeze around my hips, but once they’re on, the waistband fits perfectly. They’re too large in size 6 and look sloppy everywhere.

Option #2: Wide Leg Pants
I’m also sharing another pair of pants, which is a trouser “jean” though it looks nothing like a jean and is simply just pants. These pants are very comfortable and stretchy, and they’re quite long if you’re looking for a longer option! Find them HERE. I wear size 6.

Option #3: Wide Leg Jeans
Last, one pair that isn’t shown in this post but is definitely worth checking out is this pair from Quince. I recently got them, and they’re great if you want a pair of maroon jeans or burgundy jeans. Several members in the PMT Style Club are wearing them this fall!

All of us think you should size up from your regular size in this colorway. In the Style Club, several of us have shared that while we get our regular size in the blue denim, we’ve had to size up in this burgundy shade — it’s not the same! Check them out in straight and plus sizes, and in 28″, 30″, and 32″ inseams, HERE.

SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.

What Colors Go With Burgundy Pants

Like I said, you can pair quite a lot of colors with burgundy pants! I’ll share a few below and then show you actual outfit pictures so you can see how to actually wear these colors with burgundy. First, here are a few of my favorite colors to wear with burgundy pants!

Definitely Yes

  • black
  • white/cream
  • navy
  • mauve
  • soft pink
  • grey
  • blue denim
  • chocolate brown

  • metallics — silver, gold, pewter
  • taupe (specifically for shoes)
  • nude (specifically for shoes)

Sometimes, Maybe in Smaller Doses

These are pairings that can work, but you might prefer them in smaller doses or within prints (versus color blocking) to break them up, or depending on the exact shade.

  • olive green
  • mustard yellow
  • plum
  • teal
  • emerald green

There’s your quick reference to see which colors work with burgundy at a glance. Now let’s see them in real outfits so we can bring these suggestions to life!

Outfits With Burgundy Pants (or Maroon) That You Can Copy

Here are some burgundy pants outfit ideas that you can totally copy to get the most wear out of your pants this season and see the colors in action.

White / Cream / Ivory

Work Outfit: white top + comfortable burgundy pants + taupe flats
Casual or Work Outfit: cream sweater + comfortable burgundy pants for fall + taupe flats

Crisp, fresh, and classic! You can’t go wrong with white, cream, and ivory. These colors always looks clean against burgundy pants! These are just two of many outfits with burgundy pants that you can make with white, cream, or ivory. The possibilities are endless!

By the way, this sweater is such a great length — no tucking required! Comes in several colors. Wearing size S.

Black

Polished Casual or Work Outfit: black sweater tee + wide leg burgundy pants + leopard print shoes

When you don’t know what to wear with burgundy pants, black never fails! It’s a great option that makes your outfit slightly dressier and gives it some edge and polish. I especially love pairing black with leopard print shoes!

I’ve been LOVING this short sleeve sweater lately! It looks much more expensive than it is. It drapes really nicely and makes your outfit look more sophisticated, even though it’s super affordable! Find it HERE. Wearing size S.

Polished Casual Outfit: black turtleneck sweater + black puffer vest + burgundy pants + black boots

You can also layer it up with a black vest (check out this similar one HERE) and black boots (these similar ones are water repellent)! One of many ways to wear black with burgundy pants.

Black & White Prints

Everyday Casual Outfit: black and white striped short sleeve sweater + wide leg burgundy pants + black mary jane flats
Easy Casual Outfit: black and white striped t-shirt + versatile wide leg burgundy pants + black sandals + denim jacket

Work Outfit With Burgundy Pants: black cardigan sweater + wide leg burgundy pants + black pointed toe boots
Polished Work Outfit: black and white print blouse + wide leg burgundy pants + black pointed toe shoes

And of course you can mix them together and wear black and white prints! This helps break up the solid colors and add visual interest.

The striped tee is a long-time fave and super affordable! Find it HERE. Wearing size S.

The printed blouse is one of my favorites — I own it in several colorways because it’s so good! It’s super breathable and comfortable. Find it HERE. I’m wearing size S.

Also, the cardigan is a great fall weight. I especially love that it’s short, so it pairs nicely with wide leg pants! Find it HERE. I’m wearing size S.

Denim or Chambray

Cool Casual Fall Outfit: easy to wear white tee + relaxed wide leg burgundy pants + denim utility jacket + leopard print sneakers

Denim or chambray is SUCH an easy pairing with burgundy pants. Either wear a chambray top or wear a white tee and throw on a denim jacket (like this one HERE), like I’m doing above. Finish it off with white lifestyle sneakers or with leopard print sneakers for a fun pop!

My leopard print sneakers are HERE. I’m wearing size 9.

(Leopard print is another of the 8 fall trends that can update your outfits!)

Navy

Put Together Work Outfit: navy blue printed top + comfortable wide leg burgundy pants + tan suede flats

Navy and burgundy is suchhhhh a rich and beautiful color combo! I love to top it off with taupe shoes. For additional layers, you could add a white or cream cardigan or a grey jacket and finish it off with taupe shoes. You could also add a black cardigan or jacket, in which case I’d bookend the look with black shoes.

Earthy Pinks or Mauve

What Colors Go With Burgundy Pants: pink burgundy print top + wide leg burgundy pants + denim barn jacket + metallic shoes
Polished Casual Outfit: pink mauve sweater + wide leg comfortable burgundy pants + tan taupe boots

Ooooh, here’s where it gets fun. When you think of what colors go with burgundy pants or maroon pants, do you think pink or mauve? PLEASE DO FROM NOW ON because it’s SOOO pretty!!!

-Jacket: Kohl’s (wearing size S)

-Shoes: Kohl’s (wearing size 9)
Earrings: Nickel & Suede (similar)

Grey & Silver

Casual Outfit: gray mock neck sweater + comfortable wide leg burgundy pants + metallic shoes

Of course, grey is a great color that brings out the richness in burgundy. It looks sophisticated, but it’s so easy because grey is a neutral that plays well with tons of colors!

My sweater is a fantastic Quince find that feels great and is short enough not to tuck. Love those! Find it HERE. Wearing size S.

Also, let’s not forget that SILVER is a great color to wear with burgundy pants, especially in shoes! These Mary Jane flats are the perfect touch to outfits with burgundy pants. Plus, they’re comfortable! Check them out HERE. Wearing size 9.

Green, Olive, Yellow

What Colors Go With Burgundy Pants: green yellow red maroon pink floral print top + versatile wide leg burgundy pants + nude flats

Last, I mentioned that other colors would be good with burgundy pants in small doses or in the right shades. Here’s a great example of that, all broken up in a print. In this top, there’s green, mustard, red, and pink. I think it works well here because it’s in small doses. And, the maroon in the top helps tie everything together.

What Color Shoes Go With Burgundy Pants?

Now that you know what color shirt goes with burgundy pants, let’s finish off what to wear with burgundy pants by talking about shoes! I know many, many women who wonder what color shoes go with burgundy pants besides black, and there are some great options that you shouldn’t overlook!

My favorites are:

  • black
  • taupe
  • nude
  • silver / pewter
  • gold / bronze
  • leopard print!
  • white (like, sneakers)
  • sometimes lighter or soft tan

See them in action below!

Besides black, I usually default to taupe when it comes to what color shoes to wear with maroon pants. Nude is also so easy to wear. But the fun ones are silver or pewter (like the last picture) and leopard print!

Burgundy Pant Options

Remember, if you’re looking for GOOD burgundy pants, I 100% recommend each of these three options:

Option #1: Wide Leg Flowy Pants (wearing in this post)
Dress them up AND down. They look polished in both workwear and casual outfits! I sized down to 4.

Option #2: Wide Leg Pants
Comfortable, stretchy, and more casual than the first pair. I’m wearing these pants with the “mauve” outfits here. I wear these in size 6.

Option #3: Wide Leg Jeans
Several PMTers like these, including me! Great jean option. Be sure to try your regular size AND a size up, as this colorway runs small. I wear these in size 29.
