Three Simple Swimsuit Cover-Ups for Summer

Last summer Addie fell absolutely in love with all activities that had to do with water.  We were at the splash pad or Waterfront Park almost everyday, and if it weren’t for my disdain of parking at the beach, Addie would have lived in the ocean.  She’s definitely a Southern California summer kid!

I learned last summer that I needed to up my swimwear game, so I’ve been working on finding a couple of swimsuits that are flattering (especially after having a baby just a couple months ago!) as well as some swimsuit cover-ups.

Today I’m sharing 3 cover-up options that are worth checking out!

Simple Affordable Swimsuit Cover Ups

All 3 of my cover-ups are black, which may be very boring, but for now they work with my swimsuits.  😀  The wrap and the kaftan come in other colors, and if I end up finding other swimsuits that fit me well in other colors I’ll liven things up!

Sarong Wrap
I showed this during a recent collaboration with ModCloth but have yet to talk about this cover-up.  I tried three similar ones from Amazon, and this was easily the best.  The material is semi-sheer rather than completely see-through or completely opaque.  It’s a good midrange length–not too long and not too short like the other two I tried.  And it’s super easy to tie in a way that looks cute.  This has two thinner strips at the end to tie, so it naturally drapes the way you see it on me above.  The other two were straight rectangles which made for awkwardly bunched material and not as cute of a drape.  This wrap is only $17.99 and comes in 5 colors HERE!

I mentioned in the Summer Weekend Getaway post that this swimsuit is really flattering for my smaller bust thanks to its padding and ruching, and the bottoms are high waisted to suck in a tummy.

It comes in several different prints, including a very cute gingham.  But I love how pretty this tropical one is!  Also, the bottoms are reversible!  If the bottoms provided a *tad* more coverage, they’d be perfect for me.  But luckily, I have coverup Option #2 which I’ll talk about below!  See all the prints for this two-piece HERE.

And BTW, there’s an identical pair of sunglasses for $9.99 HERE!

Board Shorts
While I can’t wear a sarong wrap *in* the water, I can wear these board shorts!  I’ve had these for 2 years, and I LOVE them!  These shorts are what I wear most often to run through the splash pad and Waterfront Park with Addie.

I was skeptical of these shorts given the 2.75″ inseam listed on the site.  That length usually exposes my rear–yikes!  But the great reviews made me at least try them, and I’m SOOO glad I did!  Maybe it’s the 11″ rise, or maybe it’s some magic, but on me they seem a little longer.  And, they have a generous, roomy 26″ leg opening which has been so hard to find!  The gold hardware is a nice touch, in addition to the pockets.  And the wider waistband is flattering and helpful for holding in a tummy rather than squeezing it!  I wear these in M despite the site saying to size down.  See them HERE.

This swimsuit is the one I mentioned in the ModCloth post that we couldn’t get a picture of at the time.  This one fully covers my rear, and it does a great job of sucking in a tummy!  The top half doesn’t provide a lot of support though, so if you need more support I’d look for a different suit.  On one hand, I’d prefer a sportier looking suite for the splash pad and I think this is better suited for lounging by the pool.  On the other hand, this is nursing friendly so I might just make do, haha!  See it HERE.

For years I wore a dress as a cover up, but once a dress gets wet, it becomes heavy and droopy, and it hangs awkwardly on your body.  If you want a full coverup, a lightweight kaftan like this is much, much better.  It should hold its shape when wet, though I have yet to test it.  It’s inexpensive at $16.99 and comes in 18 colors HERE!

As for swimsuits, I’ve got one last order on the way with some that are less expensive.  The swimsuits in this post are expensive but have great structure, are thick, and feel quality.  I’ve already tried several cheaper options and have been unimpressed.  They lack structure or padding or overall feel too thin to hold in all the things I need them to hold in (read: tummy and rear :P).  But I’ll post once my last order comes in!
