5 Trends I Love This Fall (That Aren’t Too Trendy)
October 5, 2017
Lately quite a few of you have said you appreciate that the style I show here is somewhat trendy while still feeling classic. I’ve thought about that a lot because I don’t think of myself as a very trendy dresser (I usually don’t like spending money on trendy items that I think will fade soon!) but I’ve realized there *are* a few trends that I enjoy each season. They’re usually on the milder end of the trend spectrum and could be worn without looking outdated when the trend fades.
Today I’m sharing a few trends I’m loving this fall! Some of them may be considered trends while others may be closet staples for some people. But either way, adding any of these to your closet will help your outfits look fresh this fall!
1. BELL SLEEVE TOPS (THE TINY ONES)
I’m happy this one has carried over from last season! (And possibly before, but I was just not “in the know” then :P) I’ve said before that I think huge bell sleeves that go down to your wrists are rather inconvenient and impractical as they often get into food (boooo). But I’m digging the tinier bell sleeves like the ones shown below!
I’ve included several other bell sleeve tops for fall that you can shop through the widget below! If you are in the Bloglovin’ frame you’ll have to click out of it HERE to see all the shoppable widgets in this post.

2. TWIST OR TIE FRONT TOPS
If you follow me on social media it’s not news that I’ve been living in these these twist tees(see one styled 3 ways HERE), but I’m still loving them. Tie-front tops have a similar effect with styles allowing you to wear plain tees that have more visual interest. I now have the twist tee in 4 colors–black, olive, white and blush. ? They’ve been getting me through the awkward period where it refuses to become fall down here. 😛
That pic *looks* all nice and fall-ish. I wore it on a day where it was 68 degrees in the morning, but lost the cardigan promptly when it heated up in the afternoon. Like I was saying, not gonna be fall down here anytime soon!
More twist and tie front tops in the widget below, including a long sleeved version of the one I’m wearing above (by the same brand)!

3. MAROON, BURGUNDY, WINE
(whatever you wanna call it)
This is not really a trend, rather I believe it’s a staple color for fall and winter. At least, it is for me! This is possibly my favorite color to wear in the fall. I named it a “trend” only because there are tons and tons of items out in this color right now, so even if you pull out an old maroon piece you will fit right in with what’s fresh and current!
The stretchiest maroon pants for the office! So stinking stretchy and comfortable! And a classic maroon striped blouse. Adorable, but completely sheer.
Maroon jeans have been a closet staple of mine for years! See my remix with 15 Ways to Wear Maroon Pants. Definitely needs an update soon!

4. FRAYED OR RAW HEM JEANS
This may be the trendiest out of the five listed today. When I first saw them, I was like, “Mehhhh, jeans are expensive, I have no idea how long it will be until we all stop wearing them, and I don’t want to spend that much money on something so trendy!” But, I do love the bit of edginess they give to an outfit, and since I wear jeans most days it’s possible to get a lot of use out of them–even if they’re not around long. (Hopefully the trend will be around longer though!)
Luckily there are several cheaper options at Old Navy which you can shop through the widget below. I also included some pricier ones from good brands with great-feeling denim.
This one makes me so happy! Though I know MANY people think yellow makes them look sickly, I’m a huge fan of yellow! I used to not be, though. I used to think yellow washed me out or made me look sick, too. I finally realized that not all yellows are the same, found shades that worked for me, and now I’m all about it. I know it will still not be great for some people no matter what shade you try, but a surprising number of women in past PMT Outfit Challenges had similar qualms about yellow but now are rocking it and looking amazing!
This is me trying on a beautiful LOFT top that unfortunately sold out so fast during their recently 50% off sale. I featured this in the PMT Fall Outfit Challenge(which you can still join!) It’s nearly sold out thanks to a recent LOFT sale, but you can take a look HERE. I got it in both size Small Petite (left) and Small Regular (right) since my torso is shorter and LOFT tops tend to run long for me. Still debating about which to keep, but it’s definitely gonna be one of them!
I *always* want a yellow top in my closet, even once they’re not “in” anymore. The fact that they’re “in” just means I finally have many. many options to choose from and can add several to my closet if I want to! Although my LOFT top is limited in availability, there are tons of cute marigold, mustard, and yellow pieces you can shop through the widget below. They make me so happy!
