Can you mix and match items from your closet easily? It’s incredibly helpful to have clothes that mix and match effortlessly because it allows you to get dressed more easily AND create several outfits from fewer pieces, saving you money. I’m ALL ABOUT pieces you can wear in several ways so you have more options and less stress when it comes to building outfits. So today I’m sharing 6 winter clothes you can mix and match effortlessly!
These are all from the newly released Winter Wardrobe & Outfit Guide. In it, you’ll find 25-30 pieces that can all be worn in multiple ways, a huge outfit catalog to show you all the outfits you can create with them, and an outfit calendar with 6 weeks of planned outfits so you barely have to think about what to wear! Here are six items from the Winter Wardrobe & Outfit Guide that you can mix and match effortlessly and wear in either casual or work outfits (which I show you how to do inside the guide).*
SIZING INFO: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.

1. Sweater
Obviously if we’re talking winter, you need a sweater. Or five. 😄 I prefer ones with texture to provide visual interest, like the one I’m wearing here. Most importantly, I want to be able to wear it without tucking it, as that allows me to wear it more comfortably and with different cuts of pants.
The one I’m wearing is limited in sizes, but you can look for it HERE, and I’m in size XS as it runs huge. However, it’s different than the one I featured in the guide, which is a highly loved one from Quince that works well in both casual and work outfits. It looks clean and classic, but the texture makes it a bit more interesting. Find it in straight sizes HERE and plus sizes HERE. If you bought the Winter Wardrobe & Outfit Guide, you can find lots more sweater options in the shopping guide.

Earrings: Amazon (exact—wearing 30mm)
Necklace: Nordstrom (exact; nearly identical—but way more affordable!)

2. Fitted Basic Top or Sweater
A fitted top or sweater is a super basic piece that can appear boring at first, but the superpower of such a basic piece is that it’s highly versatile. You can combine it with virtually ANYTHING. That means you can combine it with other basic pieces for a simple outfit. Or you can add it to standout pieces to create a standout (and not boring!) outfit.
Why fitted? Well, sometimes you need a top you can tuck into skirts, dresses, and certain pants. If fitted items are not your jam, you don’t need to wear this every day – that’s what sweater #1 is for. Save this one for those outfits that need the fitted item.
The one featured in the Winter Wardrobe & Outfit Guide is a ribbed turtleneck. I chose that over a plain long sleeve tee because the ribbing and turtleneck silhouette give you a more elevated look. You can find it HERE. I wear size M.
If turtlenecks aren’t your thing, go for another style. Just make sure you can tuck it into skirts, dresses, and wide leg pants.

3. Dark or Medium Wash “Dressy” Jeans
I recommend having a pair of dark or medium wash jeans in your closet, in any cut you prefer. Opt for a pair that has a uniform wash for something that is more versatile and can be mixed and matched more effortlessly. You need those jeans that you can dress up in a pinch and pair with blouses or dressy sweaters.
I love this pair of flares, which I’ve talked about a ton. They are lightweight, soft, and comfortable, and totally affordable. Usually under $32 on sale! They have a super dark rinse this year, which I feel dresses up even more easily than the medium-to-dark wash I got last year. Find the jeans HERE. I wear size 6.
I also loooooove the dark wash wide leg jeans above. These jeans are SO COMFORTABLE. tSuper duper soft. Really stretchy. Stretchy ELASTIC WAISTBAND! They’re kind of a trouser jean, so they look dressier, except I have no problem dressing them down as well. Find them HERE. I wear size 6, but another PMTer, Angie, who has straighter hips than I do said she sized down one.

4. Sweater Blazer
While I definitely don’t think every wardrobe needs this, it’s a really versatile piece that you can mix and match nicely! A sweater blazer is comfy like a cardigan but gives you the polish and structure that you love from blazers.
Instead of finishing off jeans and a tee with a cardigan, you can opt for a sweater blazer if you want to look a bit sharper.
Or, you can pair it with pants for work for a polished yet comfortable business casual look.
The sweater blazer I’m wearing above is several years old and no longer available. Some options are this long one from J.Crew Factory, a shorter one from J.Crew Factory, and a shorter one from Quince.
5. Medium or Light Wash Jeans
To add variety to your wardrobe, include another pair of jeans in a wash that’s different than the dark wash pair from earlier. I personally love medium to light wash jeans, and right now I especially love them in a straight leg cut. You can create a casual or tailored look with them. I’m wearing the same medium wash straight leg jeans in the first outfit in this post as I am here, with the first outfit being more casual and this outfit looking more tailored — but still somewhat relaxed thanks to the medium wash.
The jeans I’m wearing here have already sold out, but there are other great options like this pair from LOFT and this pair from Gap.

6. Solid Blouse With Details
This is that blouse you can rely on when you need to dress up for dinner and a show in a pinch. You can pair it with your dark wash jeans or wear it to work with slacks. Easyyyyyy.
A solid blouse can truly be any type of top. Make sure it pairs well with your dark wash jeans and your favorite work pants, if you need to get dressed for work. The one I’m wearing above is no longer available (aghhh that sold out so fast!) but one that’s featured in the Winter Wardrobe & Outfit Guide is available HERE, and another one that’s super versatile is HERE.
