Back in June 2024, we had a really fun masterclass inside the PMT Style Club with a color specialist. She shared how getting a personal color palette through a color analysis can make getting dressed feel easier, help you feel better in your clothes, and make shopping waaaay faster. She even did a live color analysis on ME!
Yep — I had my colors done live on Zoom with PMT Style Club members watching. No pressure, right? 😜
After that session, I wrote a blog post sharing the whole experience — including what my seasonal color type is and my very real initial reactions. (Spoiler alert: I was thrown off at first!) You can read all about my color analysis and my initial feelings in My Color Analysis post HERE.

Well, it’s been almost a year since then, and I’ve grown SUCH a deeper appreciation for my personal color palette. So I wanted to circle back and share follow up reflections of my color analysis and how it’s affected my life!
I had my analysis done by Jeannie from Color Guru, who assessed my complexion to determine personal color palette with a set of colors that best complement and enhance my natural features.
BUT, before I go on, let me say this loud and clear (again): You do NOT have to wear colors that best complement your complexion. If you don’t like the colors, don’t wear them. You’re not doing it wrong. A color analysis is a tool, not a rulebook. Use it if it’s helpful. Ignore it if it’s not.
That said, here are five ways this tool has actually been really helpful for me.
5 Ways My Personal Color Palette Has Made Life Better
1. Clarity.
Even though I kinda knew which colors I liked on myself, I still experimented a lot. Sometimes that worked out, sometimes it didn’t.
During my analysis, Jeannie explained things about my complexion and coloring that I had been unclear about whenever I tried to assess myself. While it initially surprised me (read my original blog post on it), after it sank in, it cleared up so much confusion!
I now understand why I’ve always liked certain colors on myself and the qualities to look for, especially when experimenting with new colors.
2. WAY Faster Decision-Making
I used to agonize over whether a color would work on me. Sometimes I’d buy it, regret it, and miss the return window. 😭 Now I just pull out my personal color palette, hold it up to the item (or the screen if I’m shopping online), and check if the color’s on it. If it’s not, I close the window and move on, quickly! It feels SO GOOD to not waste all that time or mental energy overthinking it!
Even my teammate Courtney said it helped her big time recently. Her daughter was in a high school production of Mean Girls, so she needed lots of pink. Instead of spending hours trying to figure out which pinks would look good on her, she looked at her personal color palette and honed in on pinks from it. Boom. So easy!

3. Faster Shopping + Fewer Returns
The more you know about your style, the faster and better shopping becomes. And a personal color palette is one of the pieces of that puzzle. It’s one more layer of clarity that helps you zero in on the right items, make quicker decisions, and return less stuff. (Who WOULDN’T want to have fewer returns?)
It really does save you time, too. One thing Jeannie said stuck out to me: When you shop by color first, you can eliminate wasting time with LOADS of clothes — without even having to try anything on. Ummmm, YES. Yes, yes, yes. With a personal color palette, you hone in on the colors that work for you, even before you start looking at cut or fit or fabric, and you can eliminate a billion options before you ever click on a product. Talk about way faster shopping!

4. I Feel Better in My Clothes
Here’s the deal: I’m turning 42 soon. And as my skin and hair have changed (thanks, time), I’ve noticed that certain colors don’t look as good on me as they used to. They make me look washed out or even a little sickly. Cute….🥴
Again, you do not have to dress with your best colors to feel good. A color analysis is just a tool. Buuuut, some days (many days, lately 😆), I could use some help making my skin glow a little more, and when I wear colors from my palette, I feel noticeably better!

5. My Closet is More Focused (and More Fun!)
Before the analysis, I’d occasionally add colors just to try something new. Like I said, sometimes they stuck, sometimes they didn’t. But after enough experiments, my closet would feel a little disjointed.
When I first got my color analysis, I did an initial quick closet clean out based on colors. Over time, I sat with and embraced my results even more, which led to subsequent clean outs that were deeper and more thorough based on colors. I thought I kept a fairly curated closet as I clean it out regularly based on fit, lifestyle, and overall style preferences. But ruthlessly cleaning out my closet based on colors has streamlined my closet even more! Plus, the colors are all so pretty and give me a major dopamine hit whenever I look at them! 😂
So, that’s where I’m at. Let me reiterate again that if you get a color analysis done, you do NOT have to ONLY wear colors from your assessment if you don’t want to. It is simply a tool. I regularly wear colors that are outside of my color palette. But at the same time, I’ve used the tool more and more throughout the year and have so valued that color analysis. When I need to make quick decisions, or on days I need a little extra glow, I can reach for my color tool for simplicity and ease!
Now, if you never want to get a color analysis done, you don’t have to. But you should still create a personal color palette for yourself based on colors you like! It’ll streamline your wardrobe and decisions just the same.
