You know that feeling when you buy something really cute… and then it sits in your closet forever? 😩
You wanted it to work. You thought it would work. But when it came time to actually put it on? Meh… it just didn’t do it for you.
That was Jennifer — before she found Putting Me Together. And honestly? That’s so many of us. (Myself included! 🙋🏻♀️)
Today I’m sharing Jennifer’s story — not just because she’s wonderful (which she is 💛), but because her journey holds SO many helpful takeaways that might be exactly what you need to hear if you have felt or do feel stuck, frustrated, or like something’s missing when it comes to your style and how to find your style.
The Before: Closet Full of Clothes But Nothing to Wear
Jennifer’s been a Putting Me Together reader for over a decade. 😱 But before PMT? She described her style like this:
“I was always shopping, always looking for the perfect piece. I just always felt like I was seeking for something. Like there was this missing piece I just couldn’t quite put my fingers on and didn’t know what it was that I was missing.”
Clothing-wise, she had some good foundational pieces. But she was really struggling with the rest of it and how to pull it all together.
It wasn’t a lack of effort. She was paying attention. She was trying. She just couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t all clicking.
“ You know that extra little thing that makes you look at someone and you’re like, ‘Oh, she has good style.’ I felt like I was missing that thing.”
Have you ever felt like you’re missing that thing? That “she has good style” thing?
The First Step: PMT Blog & Challenges… and That Familiar Feeling
Like most PMTers, Jennifer first found her way into PMT through the blog. She loved different posts with ideas for how to style various pieces and style tips like how to pair different shoes and jeans.
Eventually she dipped her toes a little deeper by participating in the PMT Challenges (holla to the OGs from 2017-2019!). During those challenges, PMTers put together a capsule wardrobe and wore various outfits from it to try new things and grow their style. Jennifer loved the structure. It felt easy to copy outfits. The challenges helped her feel pulled together and get closer to where she wanted to be — but when the challenge ended? She was back at square one.
“As soon as the challenge was over, I was like, I don’t know what to wear again. I’m lost.”
Jennifer had a taste of what it could be like — to feel stylish, prepared, confident — but copying outfits wasn’t a lasting strategy. There was still something missing.
The Turning Point: Dreading Summer
Then summer rolled around — Jennifer’s least favorite season to get dressed. (We feel you, girl. SUMMER IS HARD.)
“Ugh. Summer’s coming and I have nothing to wear.”
So, she joined the PMT Style Club — hoping it could finally be that missing piece.
Spoiler: IT WAS. ✨
“Joining the Style Club was the missing piece for me. 100%.”
Not a new pair of jeans. Not another shopping haul.
The frameworks for style. The information to personalize your style. The system. The support.

The Shift: From “Almost There” to “I’ve Got This”
“This was literally the missing piece for me… I could cater it to me personally.”
Jennifer’s Journey Just 2 Weeks In

“I went from feeling frumpy to feeling good… A good reminder that it wasn’t me, it was the clothes!”
She had asked for help in our private community (major props to her — asking for help can be hard!) and boom — confidence boost unlocked.✨
4 Months In
By this point, Jennifer was diving deeper — watching style lessons, using the outfit prompts, and getting personalized feedback from me and Courtney (our second stylist in the club). She said:

1 Year In
Jennifer was on FIRE by this point!🔥 She was and is putting together outfits she feels amazing in. Getting dressed continues to feel easy. And her style is so dialed in, she’s become a go-to source of inspiration inside our community.

Oh…and about that dreaded summer style?

Jennifer spent her first summer learning all she could. But a year later, at the start of her second summer, Jennifer couldn’t believe the place she’d gotten her wardrobe to! She said:
“It’s exciting to see that I have pieces I love…. I didn’t think I’d ever get here. Just know it’s possible to have a closet full of clothes you love and can wear season over season!”
What clicked for Jennifer?
Having a coalesced system for style to ensure you have the most important info you need, in a step-by-step process, to pull yourself together with ease. With a proper system, you aren’t missing anything. You don’t have to piece it all together on your own (and not even know what you’re missing). It’s all right there, in the right order for you to succeed.
“All of the information that you provide in the club, like, it’s just so helpful. None of it is earth-shattering on its own. But having it all coalesced in one place, working through it step-by-step… it changed everything.”
Jennifer worked hard:
- Doing the style worksheets
- Defining her Style Personality and Style Profile
- Understanding what actually works for her body and life
- Learning how to translate inspiration into her own wardrobe
And with it all, she finally had the tools to:
- Shop smarter
- Stop chasing trends that didn’t actually work for her
- Feel confident and pulled together every day with more ease
She stopped trying to copy random outfits and started figuring out why something worked — and how to make it work for her.
What’s Different Now: Style Confidence AND Everyday Ease
Jennifer says getting dressed is SO much easier now. Even on tired days? She’s got go-to formulas that feel good and look pulled together.
“I know I can put on joggers and a cute half-zip sweatshirt and still look polished — even if I feel like I’m wearing pajamas. That’s all I’ve got energy for some days, and it still works.”

She can articulate what works for her and what doesn’t. She can break it down. She knows what element of the piece she loves (the color? the neckline? the vibe?) and what she needs in every outfit — even in joggers and a cute half-zip sweatshirt — for her to feel her best.
Jennifer discovered she needs:
- bright colors or an overall bright effect
- if no brightness, it needs a little whimsy — something to make her outfit feel unique and special
- simple pieces with pattern or a pop of color for interest
- fit that’s not too loose and not too baggy; i.e. oversized sleeves make her feel frumpy
- structure in her pieces
She’s developed her personal style systems and formulas to nail her look each day.
A Style Win That Spills Into Other Areas
Jennifer’s raised confidence even contributed to her starting a YouTube channel — totally unrelated to fashion — and she gets compliments all the time on what she’s wearing!
“I cannot tell you how many comments I get about the things I wear on my YouTube channel. People are like, ‘Oh my gosh, I swear so cute. That’s such a cute outfit.’”
It’s not about impressing anyone. It’s about feeling good in your skin and showing up as your best self — whether it’s at the grocery store, on a Zoom call, or yep… on YouTube!

Why the Style Club Was Jennifer’s Missing Piece
There are a lot of style tips out there. Tons of blogs, Pinterest boards, challenges, lists.
“The Style Club pulled it all together. I needed it to make sense in one place. It gave me the structure and the community I needed. That’s what made the difference.”
She learned how to:
- Decode her own style
- Shop smarter
- Dress her body shape (as it is NOW) to feel better in her clothes
- Figure out her personal style formulas so she loves what she wears
- Get dressed with ease and confidence — every day
That’s what we love to help people with the most in the Style Club: bridging that frustrating gap between what you see and how to make it work for you. Jennifer stopped guessing. She started dressing with clarity.
And now, getting dressed isn’t a source of stress — it’s actually kinda fun.
Bonus Love: The Community & Support (i.e. the Best Part You Didn’t Know You Needed)
And let’s not forget her favorite “bonus” — the PMT Style Club community.
“Reading your blog is helpful, but it’s not the same as being part of a group where you’re learning, sharing, and cheering each other on. It’s not just me reading a blog post anymore. It’s a whole conversation. It’s like… we’re helping each other get dressed every day.”
There’s something really special about doing this with other women who get it. When you see someone else nailing their outfit? You’re not comparing — you’re celebrating. And when you finally feel like it’s all clicking? You’ve got people right there cheering you on.
That’s the beauty of it. There’s so much power in doing it together.

Here’s the thing: a lot of us think the “missing piece” is a certain top or jacket or pair of jeans that’ll suddenly make everything else work. But what if it’s not a piece of clothing at all?
For Jennifer, the missing piece wasn’t in her closet. It was the system — the way to understand her style, shop with confidence, and make her wardrobe actually work.
You don’t need to buy all the trends. You don’t need to change your body. You don’t need to look like everyone else. But to get your wardrobe functioning and making you feel confident with ease? To find your style? You do need a better system — and a little guidance to make it work for you.
