How to Wear Color in Outfits With Four Simple Formulas

Huge thanks to Kohl’s and Collective Voice for sponsoring this post

Bright colors are POPPIN’ this summer! If you’re drawn to bright colors but you’re not sure how to wear color in outfits this summer, let’s talk! Today I want to give you four formulas to help you wear colors with ease, and I’m partnering with Kohl’s and Collective Voice to do it.

1. Neutral Piece + Colored Piece
If you’re trying to figure out how to wear color in outfits, you can ALWAYS pair a colored piece with a neutral piece. This is a great way to tone down a colorful piece if you’re in the mood for just a splash of color.

Here I’m pairing a bright pink tank with a white skirt. You can use this formula with any colored piece, so pick your favorite and go for it! This shade of pink is really popular right now, as are lots of other saturated brights. This tank comes in 7 colors and 3 prints. It’s on the thicker side, and it’s fitted, so it’s great with skirts. It’s super affordable, HERE! I wear size M.

This skirt is nice and lightweight, and the buttons make it even cuter! It has elastic in the waistband and POCKETS! It’s a great casual skirt that feels fairly laid back but still pulled together. Find it HERE. I’m wearing size S, but it’s roomy enough that I could probably even go for size XS.

2. Printed Piece + Piece in a Color From the Print
This is SUCH an easy way to incorporate color, but it looks so good! Start with any printed piece, then pair it with a counterpart that echoes a color from the print of that piece. This type of pairing creates a cohesive look that’s full of color, visual interest, and style. Here, I pulled the pink out from the print and used it for the tank.

This lightweight skirt comes in 7 prints, has a fully elastic waistband that’s very stretchy, and is under $30!!!! See all the prints HERE. I’m wearing size S, but it’s so forgiving that I could probably go down to size XS in this one too.

3. Neutral Print + Colored Piece
This is another formula for how to wear color in outfits this season. Because the printed piece is made of all neutrals, you can pair it with plenty of colors.

Flowy printed pants are really popular right now, and they’re so fun! I like to keep them the focal point of the outfit by pairing them with a simple piece on top, like a basic tee or tank.

These pants feel silky, smooth, flowy, and lightweight. The waistband is fully elastic. These come in 9 colors and prints, HERE. I’m wearing size S.

4. All Color Bright or Muted Colors
You can also go for all-over color, and you can do it in a way that packs a punch with a bright color, or you can go with a more muted color. There are so many fun brightly colored dresses at Kohl’s right now, which I’ll round up in the widget at the bottom of this post, but muted colors totally count, too!

This dress is SUPER comfortable smooth, soft, and stretchy! It has a tie waist so you can cinch it in. And, it has pockets! It comes in black and olive. I wear size S in the black, but I prefer to size up to size M in the olive.

By the way, I love how versatile these sandals are! They come in 5 colorways, and I own them in both the black and the metallic version. Metallics are a neutral and go with so much more than you might think! Find them HERE. I wear size 8.5.
