It’s time for some reviews! In the process of creating the Fall Wardrobe & Outfit Guide (which comes out on 9/12), I also placed several orders to try. Most of them haven’t arrived yet, but here are my reviews of some that have!
If you are a PMT Style Club member, you already have access to the Fall Wardrobe & Outfit Guide. Log into the club hub to download it and access all the shopping links early!
SIZING: I’m 5’6” and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.
1. Striped Tee – size S
I haven’t shopped extensively in person in a while, but yesterday one of our teammates was visiting from out of town, so we shopped! I was mostly shopping for her but wanted to try a few things for all of you as well. This tee is REALLY good! Before anything, I need to tell you there are 3 gold buttons on the left shoulder that my hair is covering, which might kill the whole deal for you if you don’t have a Classic style. But if you do, or if you’re willing to remove the buttons or just deal with the buttons, listen up cuz this top is good!
The fabric is thick and sturdy, so it offers shape and structure, but it’s still a t-shirt. The structure means it floats over lumps and bumps and is very flattering over a midsection. Plus, it’s short, so most of you wouldn’t have to tuck it! Comes in 3 colors. I want the yellow stripe one (my size wasn’t in store), and even though the buttons really aren’t my style, given how great everything else about this shirt is, I might just deal with the buttons or figure out how to remove them haha!
Available in straight and plus sizes.
2. Stovepipe Straight Leg Jeans – size 27
I’m looking for some straight leg jeans that are stretchy but look thick and structured. I’m still debating if this pair is the right wash and fit for exactly what I’m looking for, but my personal wishlist aside, this pair is REALLY good in general. Structured and thick fabric but extremely stretchy! There are several colorways. This is Evening Indigo Wash and the only colorway that has a finished hem. I did the stretch test, and while they don’t get SAGGY, they do get a bit loose around the knees. Be sure to size down as these are quire stretchy and run large. They come in straight, plus, petite, and tall.
My top is not available anymore but is from Nordstrom Rack.
3. Pointelle Sweater – size S
For when you want to wear a sweater but can’t take a super thick and cozy one, this is perfect! The pointelle gives the sweater tons of visual interest. It’s short enough that I can wear it untucked for a super easygoing but stylish outfit. Find it HERE. I’m wearing size S.
This is one of the 40+ Tops That You Don’t Need to Tuck that I shared last week.
My jeans are nearly sold out, but there is a super similar pair from their sister brand, HERE.
4. Striped Short Sleeve Sweater – size S
This sweater is thick and soft. It feels like sweaters twice its price. (Gotta love Nordstrom Rack for good value at lower prices!) It’s super short, and it works for me because I have quite a short torso. One thing I don’t love about it is how high it goes to the neck. It bothers me a little because I personally hate things around my neck, haha! I’m on the fence about it, so we’ll see. Otherwise, I love the idea of it and how the fabric feels, especially for the price. It’s really cute! I’m wearing size S.
5. Stretch Wide Leg Jeans – size 28
I ordered several jeans from Hidden based on their reviews. They are thick but stretchy for a supportive but comfortable feel. It’s a great brand that you should definitely try if you’re looking for a new brand! This pair in particular is softer than the other two styles I tried. Very comfy!! I probably could have sized down in this one, so I re-ordered the 27 to try.
The orange pants are the Kohl’s trouser jeans that I blogged about recently. SO GOOD. While we’re here, check out another view of them below. You can dress them up with boots AND dress them down with sneakers…assuming the length is right for your height. The fabric is thick and sturdy with a bit of stretch. Good weight for cooler fall temps. Get them HERE. I’m wearing size 6.

6. Wide Leg Hidden Jeans – size 28
This is another pair of Hidden jeans. They’re really thick but super SOFT, stretchy, and really comfy! I like the wash of this pair, too.
The boots are the main pair I told yall to try from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. The shaft is so tall that they work under all jeans, including ankle length jeans like these. The heel is low, so they should be good for all-day wear. The toe box is elongated, which gives you a sleeker and more polished look — without being a fully pointed toe, which I know can feel too sharp for many of you for everyday wear. This square toe is a better option for that! Find them HERE. I’m wearing size 9.
7. Rust Wide Leg Hidden Jeans – size 28
If you need a different option for rust orange pants, this is one to try. The fabric is thick and supportive, but stretchy and comfortable! And these are ankle-length instead of full length like the other pair above.
This top is from Kohl’s, and I recently showed it in Easy Work Outfits With Versatile Pieces Under $40. You can wear it trousers for work, like I did in that post, or with jeans, or with colored jeans like I’m doing here. Very versatile! Find the shirt HERE. I’m in size S.
8. Short Sleeve Sweater – size S
This is another top from the 40+ Tops You Don’t Need to Tuck post. You can pair it with jeans AND with dress pants for work. Very versatile! I like how there’s texture on the front to make it a little more interesting and elevate it.
I’m not sure about sizing and wish I had ordered two sizes. Size S actually fits really well, BUT not necessarily in the way I prefer. It’s fitted around the waist, and if the waistband on my jeans is bulky at all, the top actually accentuates my midsection from the sideview more than I like. I think something looser would deemphasize that. However, if the waistband is flatter, it looks great. It also looks great fully tucked into thing. So I have to either decide if I will just always wear it tucked or order size M to try. (If only Nordstrom Rack’s shipping and return policies were as easy as Nordstrom’s—I would have been on it already!)
Anyway, I really like it. I think it’s a great balance of looking casual but polished, and it can be dressed up for work.
9. Wit & Wisdom Flares – size 6
I saw that Wit & Wisdom (my favorite denim brand) had flares, so I had to try. They are really comfortable! I’ve found that some of W&Ws newer denim hasn’t been *as* comfortable as some of their previous ones, but this one is good. I typically prefer flares over bootcuts because I like the wider bottom. I think it balances wide hips even better than bootcuts. And on a practical level, that wider opening works better over sneakers than bootcuts typically do!
10. Target Sweater – size S
Another one from the 40+ Tops You Don’t Need to Tuck post! This sweater has a casual, relaxed feel with texture that adds style. Really great for casual outfits. It’s quite thick and bulky, better for cold days. (Which means I won’t get to wear it until November or December due to where I live haha!)
I don’t LOVE the fabric, as I’ve been spoiled by sweaters that feel soft and cozy and lightweight, even if they’re really thick. This sweater feels a bit heavy. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it is something to note! Available in straight and plus sizes.
Here I’m wearing my KUT From the Kloth Meg jeans. In case you missed it, they’re SO COMFY! SO soft. SO stretchy. SO comfortable. They don’t lose shape or get saggy through out the day. Find them HERE. I wear size 4.
11. Target Wide Leg Jeans – size 6
These jeans are only $30 and have good reviews so I wanted to try them! The fabric is really thick and a good weight for fall and colder temps. They are not stretchy at all, but the tradeoff is they provide good structure and help you feel held-in. Still, the legs are soft and don’t feel stiff. Where you feel the lack of stretch is at the waistband and seat — and you know a non-stretchy waistband is so tough for me! These felt super tight when I first tried them on, but because they are 99% cotton I expected them to stretch a bit, and they did. Not to the point of sagging but just enough to loosen up at the waistband for me to tolerate them. I can’t wear them everyday, but I do want them on days I want my outfits to have a bit more structure and also to hold me in a little more securely. 😄
Also note that every colorway is different. The cream pair was a bit looser than the black pair for me.
Last note, if you have an hourglass or pear figure then manage your expectations with these! I’m an hourglass and these barely worked well since they are not cut for curvy figures and there is not stretch to make up for it. Doesn’t mean don’t try them! Just means prepare your mental state that if they don’t fit, it’s not your fault—the problem is they aren’t cut for curves.
Check them out HERE. I’m wearing size 6. Available in straight and plus sizes.
12. Mary Janes – size 9
Mary Jane’s are really popular right now, especially red ones! There are lots of options everywhere, including good quality ones from Nordstrom, Madewell, and Zappos. But if you want to try out a trend for less, try this pair, which is only $30!
Obviously they’re not gonna be the highest quality, but they are pretty good for $30. The upper is nice and soft, and there’s a TINY bit of cushion in the footbed. Honestly, it doesn’t last that long, so if you want more question or support, size up and then stick and insole into them. They’re a good option that allows you to play with a trend in an affordable way. Find them HERE.
Want to have a closet full of clothes you LOVE to wear but not sure where to start?
Most women have issues with their clothes because they don’t know what wardrobes need.
What you need is different than what I need. It’s different from what your favorite Instagram influencer needs. It’s different from what your best friend needs.
While there is absolutely nothing wrong with copying someone else’s outfits (in fact, I highly encourage it as a way to get outside of your own box and make life easy), if it has led you to a closet full of clothes you barely wear, it’s time to make a change and figure out your own style.
I’m tired of seeing women spend money on clothes and still not enjoy their wardrobes.
That’s why in a few weeks I’ll be hosting a LIVE 5-day bootcamp to help you know exactly what your wardrobe needs for you to love it: Discover Your Personal Style Week.
It includes some of our students’ FAVORITEEEEE lessons from my signature style course and the PMT Style Club that have helped them make better shopping decisions and save money. (And if you are already a SPT student or PMT Style Club member, you can sign up for free since you already have all the lessons. But you can join for the additional live bonus portions.)
Registration opens NEXT MONDAY 9/16, and you’ll want to sign up for the waitlist BECAUSE:
