I don’t know about you, but I sometimes regarding types of clothes I say, “I could never wear ____ (skinny jeans) ” or “_____ (Yellow) just isn’t for me” or “I’m just not a _____ (sweater) kind of person.” Sometimes it’s true, but sometimes I’m wrong.
In my
2015 reflection I noted that I’d grown a small sweater collection after realizing I liked two particular characteristics. Most sweaters I paid attention to in the past were plain and somewhat formfitting, like
THIS. That’s not at all to say that kind of sweater isn’t good. I actually think that sweater is really cute (and I love all the colors it comes in!), but whenever I tried sweaters like that I never felt like they clicked for me. So I went around thinking “I’m just not a sweater person.”
Finally I realized I love sweaters with two things: 1) a looser fit, and 2) some sort of texture. And just like that, all I want to wear is loose sweaters!
I was wrong about sweaters. Sure, plain, form fitted sweaters still aren’t my favorite (though I have a couple that I actually like), but I ended up avoiding all sweaters, not keeping in mind that there are different kinds of sweaters and I just hadn’t found the right ones. Before blogging I had written off the color yellow thinking that it didn’t work with my skin tone. Turns out a certain tone of yellow doesn’t work with my skin tone, but there are different kinds of yellow and I actually LOVE some of them on me to the point that a mustard cardigan is one of my closet staples. In high school I said, “I’d NEVER be caught DEAD in pink!!!” and the next year hot pink was MY COLOR!
Every time I’m wrong I am reminded to not swear off pieces forever and to remember that while specific types of pieces may not work for me, there might be a version out there that does work for me.
So, yay for all the loosely fitted, textured sweaters! *praise hands emoji*
