Huge thanks to Gap and ShopStyle Collective for sponsoring this post
In case you’re in need of some summer outfit ideas, I’m sharing three summer outfit combos that you can use to shake up your outfits, and I’m partnering with Gap and ShopStyle Collective to do it!
It’s so easy to get into a denim shorts + tank top rut in the summer. And while I love an easy outfit like that, sometimes I love it a little too much and it becomes all I wear. So, let’s talk through three outfit formulas that you can easily rotate through this summer to help you break out of a rut.
And, Gap is currently offering 40% OFF your purchase with code GAPDEAL through 6/25!!
Gap has some great pieces that I have become some of my most-worn items lately, and I’ll share a few more good finds with you today. On top of that, Gap has a good range of sizes, including straight, petite, tall, and plus options and denim in sizes 24 to 35. They also have programs towards sustainability efforts, such as making products responsibly with their Washwell program which reduces water usage and waste, making garments with 100% organically grown cotton or 100% recycled polyester which reduces waste.
Now let’s talk through some outfit combos that you can rotate through this summer!
SIZING: I’m 5’6” and usually S/M or 6 in clothes.
1. Denim Shorts + Tank or Tee
First up is the trusty combo of denim shorts and a tank. Here, I’m doing it with denim shorts and a basic white linen blend muscle tank.
I’ve shown this tank top before but it’s worth sharing again because it’s comfortable and super breathable, so it’s fantastic for hot summer days! It also drapes really well, so it’s easy to do a loose front-tuck with, and I like how the texture of the linen provides a more relaxed feel. It comes in 8 colors and in regular, petite, and tall lengths, HERE. I wear size XS—this runs really large, so size down.
These denim shorts are part of Gap’s Generation Good program, which values using better materials and less water, creating less waste and lower emissions, and generating more supportive work environments that empower women. On top of that, the shorts and comfortable with a good amount of stretch, and the waistband has some give! They come in sizes 24 to 35 and in regular, tall, and petite lengths. Unfortunately many sizes are no longer available in the regular length, but see if you can catch yours HERE. Tall and petite options are well-stocked. I wear size 28/6. You can find these shorts in a washed black HERE and some other similar shorts HERE and HERE.
Also, this sweatshirt is really soft, and it’d be great for a cooler night on July 4th! However, if you’re looking for other colors, it’s also available in tan or dark beige color that is great as a neutral summer piece! See them both HERE. I wear size S.

2. Soft Pants or Shorts + Nicer Top
Next up is a great outfit formula to get into your rotation: soft pants or shorts with a nicer cotton top. This is still casual but it’s a total change from denim shorts and a basic tank, so it helps you feel like you have variety in your everyday casual wear.
I have told you about these pants several times, and I love them more and more the longer I have them! They are really, really SOFT, lightweight, and super breathable so they keep you really comfortable on warmer days. You can dress these down easily by pairing them with a t-shirt or tank (such as the muscle tank above that I show in THIS post), or you can dress them up with a nicer casual top like I’m doing here. These pants come in 4 colors and are available in regular, petite, and tall lengths, HERE. I wear size 6. Remember, you can use code GAPDEAL to get 40% off your order!
One note is that there is mild pleating under the waistband. I usually don’t like pleating there, personally, but it’s mild enough for me. However, just something to be mindful of if you strongly dislike pleating.
This top is a dressier alternative to a t-shirt, and it can be worn in a casual outfit with denim shorts or soft, lightweight pants like I’m doing here! This top comes in white and brown in addition to 2 prints, and in regular, petite, and tall sizing. Find them all HERE. I wear size S.
A few other similar nice-but-casual tops are this crinkle gauze tiered tank, this eyelet flutter sleeve top, this peplum cami, and this easygoing tie front top.
Soft pants or shorts and any of top like one of those is a great summer outfit combo that is a nice change from denim shorts and a tank or tee!

3. Dress
Last, get a few dresses into your rotation! You instantly look put together while wearing a dress, and yet you can be so comfortable in one! Dresses are breezy and don’t constrict you, which is extra helpful when you don’t want clothes suffocating you on hot summer days. 😅
This crinkle gauze dress is exactly what you want! It’s really lightweight, and its empire waistline helps define your shape while allowing the rest of it to float away from your body to keep you comfortable and cool. On top of that, the tiered bottom is very current for the season, and the straps are adjustable and you can tie them to your best fit. This dress comes in 3 colors and is available in regular, petite, and tall lengths, HERE. I wear size S. And you can get 40% off with code GAPDEAL! See this similar dress that also has adjustable straps in a comfy knit HERE.
