Today I’m sharing some of my favorite fall style trends for 2025 that are super easy to wear and perfect if you want to feel updated and modern as a stylish 40-something.
If you’ve been around here for a bit, you know I’m all about smart, strategic style, which means building your wardrobe on timeless staples that carry over season after season and just mixing in a few fresh trends to keep things current*. This way, you don’t need to overhaul your closet every time the seasons – and the trends – change. Just a few intentional pieces can breathe new life into what you already own!

Also, I am the kind of person who generally doesn’t want to waste time or money on trends that will be gone after a season. So, I try to choose trends that will still feel relevant long after their moment in the spotlight has passed, so I can get plenty of wear out of anything I add later on without looking really outdated.
Fall Style Trends for 2025 to Easily Make Outfits Fresh
Let’s jump into fall trends that are easy to wear, practical, and will help your outfits feel fresh!
SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.
1. Burgundy, Berry, & Maroon
Burgundy is always a fall favorite, but burgundy is especially having a moment this year, along with similar shades like berry and maroon. These hues are deep, rich, and really versatile. Adding these colors is one of the easiest ways to make your outfits feel more seasonal without adding anything too trendy or bold! These shades are everywhere this season, in items like a jacket, a cardigan, pants, shoes, or earrings. It’s one of the easiest fall style trends to incorporate, and you’ll be able to wear any of those with tons of outfits this season and beyond!
I own earrings like THESE burgundy earrings from Nickel & Suede and have been wearing them to make some of my warm-weather pieces feel more like fall. (See my blog post What to Wear In the Fall When It’s Hot for tips.) I also plan to get an updated burgundy cardigan, like THIS one or THIS one. I also currently have THIS burgundy bomber jacket and LOVE it, but just need to try it on with more of my outfits before I make a final decision. I ordered THESE flats, and they’re really cute and they are comfortable. But I am still deciding if I’ll wear them much or if sneakers would be better for me. I ordered THESE pants.

2. Mauve
This soft, earthy pink adds a feminine vibe without being too precious, and it pairs so well with burgundy, among other colors! You can add pieces in this shade, like sneakers, a cardigan, a jacket, a printed top, or a sweater.

3. Chocolate Brown
Yes, brown is a neutral, so you can wear it anytime, but brown is especially HUGE and on-trend this season. It’s timeless, elegant, and rich, and it’s surprisingly easy to mix into your wardrobe. It pairs beautifully with denim, burgundy, mauve, olive, and navy, to name a few! Adding some wardrobe staples in chocolate brown, like a striped tee, a puffer vest, and sneakers, instantly gives classic outfit formulas a fresh twist!
While brown is one of the colors I should stay away from according to my seasonal color analysis, I still wear it sometimes. (Though, I’ll admit I wear it less and less these days because I love wearing the colors in my palette even more!) I’ve ordered a few brown pieces that I might selectively sneak into my outfits, but we’ll see how I feel once I try them on first. 😉 If I end up not loving them, I’ll be fine staying away from this trending color. I’ll just focus on burgundy and mauve instead! 😊
4. Denim Dress
A denim dress is another classic piece that you can wear beyond this season, but it’s especially of-the-moment and on-trend this fall. Denim dresses are casual enough for everyday and are so cute with ankle boots or tall boots. They can also be layered with a cardigan or a jacket. If you love the look of these, definitely add one to your wardrobe this season because there are tons of options available!

5. Suede
Suede is another trend that is timeless – it’s such a fall staple. But it’s even more in the spotlight this season. Suede makes any outfit instantly feel like fall! Whether it’s a jacket, boots, or a crossbody bag, suede adds a luxe texture and a little polish to your outfits.
THIS option from Target is a great faux-suede option that you can wear open over a t-shirt or buttoned all the way. You can also go for suede boots, which are ALWAYS in for fall. I love THIS pair from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, which is water resistant! It’s a super versatile style that works for casual outfits, work, and special occasion looks.
6. Barn Jacket, Bomber Jacket, Field Jacket
Jacket styles are getting a refresh! For this fall, try a cropped shacket, barn jacket, bomber jacket, or field-style piece for a modern take — including swapping out your classic denim jacket for one of these updated styles, too! Now, before you freak out that your classic denim jacket isn’t “in” anymore, don’t worry. It’s a timeless choice. But IF you want outfits to look especially fresh, add an updated one to change things up and have a little fun with your style!
Barn jackets are big this season. I personally don’t know how I feel about this trend yet. I’m not saying I’d never wear it… I’m just saying it’s not top on my list to jump on. (I’m personally more of a bomber jacket kinda girl!)

7. Belts
Belts are back in a big way, and they’re one of the easiest fall style trends to update your outfits with. Whether it’s a wide belt over a dress or a classic leather one with jeans, belts add definition and instantly elevate your look. I’ve always preferred belts with a little stretch in them to make it easier to move, breathe, and eat!
You can wear belts with more discreet hardware, like THIS and THIS. Or, wear a belt with more shine to add polish and a little glam. You have plenty of choices with all the belts out there!
8. Animal Print (Cow, Leopard, and More)
Did animal print ever really go away? Well, there’s no debate — it’s here now! Whether you add it in a shoe, skirt, belt, or something else, you’ll put a fun twist on your outfit. I’ve always loved leopard print, and it’s easy to add in touches like leopard print shoes and leopard print earrings. A little bit goes a long way and can instantly make your outfit more interesting! You can also make a huge statement with a leopard print skirt!
